His mom is black. His father is white. His mom bailed on him? Hmmmm.......that doesn't sound right.......it's usually the opposite....no wait...I can't say that....
Thanks for the vid; had not seen it. I have looked for excuses to dislike Ward; the hometown fighting, the 'son of god' bull****, the mauling, the headbutting, etc, but damned if I didn't end up a big fan of the dude. Ward demonstrates everything that is good about boxing. Above all, the man is a flat out winner, in the ring and outside of it. As an American boxing fan, I am grateful to have someone representing us in this fashion. Supremely confident, yet hard working, humble, respectful. Student of the game, champion of our cause (keeping boxing in our country relevant). Unfortunately, no matter what he does in the ring, he will never garner huge attention or elevate his profile in a big way, as that is not what the US general public pays attention to. Act like a gentleman dedicated to your craft, respect your fellow boxers and others around you, and you end up like Mosley. Known by true boxing fans, unknown and unappreciated by the rest of the public. Act like an *******, raise your profile like "Money" Mayweather, and you bring in plenty of casual fans who love WWE, Dana White, trainwrecks, controversies, jersey shore, worldstarhiphop.com and whatever other mindless **** they spoonfeed themselves. As a huge fan of PBF's boxing ability, I appreciate him immensely, and am blessed to be able to watch him perform. But, it's a shame that he feels his only option to elevate his 'brand' is to conduct himself like a ****wit. I find myself constantly defending PBF to marginal fans of boxing who have a difficult time separating his persona and histrionics from his boxing ability. Frankly, his "Cartier watch, 100k bet" bull**** embarrasses me, and requires no real creative marketing ability other than to portray himself as an *******; as someone to hate, despise, root against. Yet, I will defend Mayweather to the last breath when talking about his genius in the squared circle. Unfortunately, that's never the topic of discussion; it's nearly always about the extracurricular bull****. Back to Ward, I think it will be very interesting how his career develops with respect to marketing his name. Imagine if you were his promoter or advisor. Would you recommend he stick to his principles, and conduct himself like a gentleman at the risk of being 'under the radar' and hurting his earning ability? Or would you 'sell him out', and 'buy in' to the "all publicity is good publicity" mode of thinking?? Quite the catch-22 eh???
