I believe it's commonly taught to finish with a left hand. It resets your balance, keeps your opponent on defense, and give you another chance to land another right. Also you start with a left, but always try to finish with a left. When I briefly went to a gym on the first day they taught me double jab->right cross->jab combo, and had me work on that exclusively as a beginner.
Funny that i haven't seen much people doing it, i'm working the combination and some people showed me Kovalev and Rios doing it.
I never heard of that. The 1-2 combo is the most common because it allows you to go into defense after you throw or just to reset. a left-right-left combo can get you caught in between. A beginner that does this is more likely to get caught by the other persons hook when throwing the left again (counter-punch). Remember you hook off the opponents jab. It's too dangerous to do if you don't have the timing right. You can be blocked and countered but Arthur is no counter puncher. Khan does this and get caught every time. This content is protected Hook off the jab This content is protected
Mickey Bey is someone that uses the 1-2-1 a lot. I remember hearing his corner call for that combination a lot during his fights
I'm not a fan of Mickey Bey to be honest so i missed those combinations, he is not a bad fighter though.
Interesting things going on there: Ward threw that punch when he sensed Abraham trying to push forward. Throws jab, keeps jab hand to occupy the guard (to keep safe and a longer distance between himself and Abraham, he changes levels) - Abraham after the right hand is being thrown is not expecting the left hand from Ward which comes from the angle at which Abraham is made to retreat. Abraham was just expecting a 1-2.
