I thought Cortez was horrible that night and I am NOT thrilled he is doing BHop -Calzaghe. But I do think it's pretty incredible that Floyd was able to take Ricky's rough house tactics and use them against him. Hatton thought he was going to be dealing with a pure boxer and he ended up geting KO'd by Floyd the brawler.

Hatton has been severely underrated since. No doubt Hatton is top 10 p4p. He was fighting at 147 but he still gave Floyd his most competetive bout since Castillo.

If I remember correctly both were very rough in that fight, Floyd's was just more subtle. It was a great fight and I actually wouldnt mind a rematch....at 140.

Then why bother to question the ref? its pointless. Cortez didnt throw the left hook, Mayweather did :yep

thats bull****, imagine a ref at a football match being that one sided, so what player A made the killer pass or player B made the killer shot, the ref made it easy.

Its not just the left hook that ended it, it all the B.S. leading up to the hook. Cortez did a very poor job, he seem so focused on not letting any rough housing take place that he over reacted and stopped any chance of any in-fighting to develop.

You guys popping off saying Cortez didn't throw the left hook that ended it are missing the big picture.

The left hook alone did not knock out Hatton. The accumalation of hard counters throughout the fight had an effect as well. these will have weakened Hatton. In addition, the left hook was landed as result of Hatton losing his head due to the fact the ref was a joke.....if the fight was allowed to develop corretly perhaps the above two points would have affected Hatton less.

Anyway, I'm not here to make excuses/give reasons as to why Hatton lost.....I'm past that. I just saw this video and thought I would bring it up more to discuss Cortez, and how bad a performance it was from a supposedly top ref.....I knew he was bad when I saw the fight live but didn't realise how bad until I saw these videos....there is no agenda here....Floyd's dirty stuff just made me respect him more.

the second the ref warned Hatton and he turned around and stuck his arse out I knew it was over, the ref has ruined the fight and Hatton lost concentration, so yeah, he did make it easier for Mayweather.

If Hatton had been allowed to rough Mayweather up to his heart's content, he would have lost on cuts by about round 5...

If Hatton had been allowed to rough Mayweather up to his heart's content and Mayweahter had been warned every time he used his elbow defence, the fight would have run exactly the same course it did - instead of being reset because Hatton was hugging Mayweather, it would have been reset because Mayweather was using his elbow to protect himself against Hatton's passionate advances.

If Hatton had been stopped from roughing Mayweather up and Mayweather had been stopped from using the elbow defence, Hatton would have been TKOed by about round 6, if there had been a fight, that is, with the number of times it would have had to be reset - probably ending in a NC for both.

No way, under any circumstances, would Hatton have won.

Hatton did not lose because of Cortez!

He lost because Mayweather is better than him - this is coming from a big Hatton fan!

Ok, Cortez was a contributing factor, but you can't blame the defeat on him.

    Questions to be asked:

    1. Why did Ricky smother his own work?
    2. Where was the head movement?
    3. Where was the jab?
    4. Why did he stand and admire knocking Floyd off balance - should have been straight in there.
    5. Why throw the punch when Floyd was beneath the ropes - the point deduction could have gone the other way had Floyd continued ducking down and bending over?

I would like to see a rematch at 140lbs, either in UK or US, with either a different referee, or Cortez allowing the fight to flow.

Up until the 8th round, Ricky wasn't in any trouble, winning two of the first six and having one even round, IMO - though pretty much all of the rounds were close and could be scored according to personal interpretation.
