What Bob Arum said in the ring website's current cover story. When you do big fights at big venues, people can watch it live without taking out a mortgage, Arum said. I think charging $1,200, $1,500 for (a ringside seat in Las Vegas) is a disservice to the sport. Thats a mistake. We got into a rut. Everyone, including ourselves, did the easy thing and had events brought into Las Vegas. Why? Because the hotels are there. It was easy. Well, easy doesnt necessarily mean its the best for yourself or the sport. It took thirty years for one of the major promoters to have this suddenly dawn on him? I think I would have had a heart attack if Arum went had on to talk about the evils of pay-per-view.
What?!!!! Bob Arum is a selfless humanitarian who shits rainbows of joy onto the world. How dare you, sir.
This is bull****. The people that can't afford to buy a ticket won't miss a mortgage payment to buy one. Generally, the people who CAN afford will buy the ticket. Now I'm not saying I like the prices, just the Arum is STILL full of **** and STILL talking out of his ass. If he really wanted to do something nice, he would do what DLH did for the forbes fight, and making it really affordable, and NOT on PPV.
What he did for the Forbes fight????? You mean DLH not making it PPV so that he would'nt embarrass himself with the poor buyrate. Spare us Uli......DLH wanted an easy tuneup against Forbes, and thats the only reason that fight was on free HBO..... .....the damn tickets to the fight had to be given away for Gods sake. .....and as for Arum and his big venues for big fights.....its a terrible idea. Stadiums are not meant to see a fight. There will be in excess of 40 thousand on hand to see Pac-Clottey, and believe me, about 35 thousand of them will not be looking at the ring when the punches are flying.....if they want a view, they're going to have to be lifting their damn heads to see the jumbo tron screen to be able to watch whats going on. To pay 40 to 50 bucks for one person to watch the fight at a stadium jumbo tron, you're better off staying at home paying for the PPV so that your family and friends can watch the fight as well.
De La Hoya could sell 500K PPV's showing himself on the can, reading the newspaper. It doesn't matter the opponent he could sell at least 800K fighting Eric Crumble. Anyways, No Arum hasn't seen ****. He talks out of his ass, and if he really cared about the fan those Latin Fury/Pinoy Power cards wouldn't be on PPV they would be on Versus or some free channel.
"Yesterday I was lying, today I'm telling the truth" Bobby goes wherever he gets the biggest site fee, when it's Vegas, "it's the Mecca of boxing", when it's a stadium, "big fight, big place". The reason this fight is happening because Arum saw the light... of Jerry Jones' gold and said **** the Mayweather fight, I'M getting millions here."
Luke made a valid of observation! Three actually! :yikes (In other news, the temperature in hell plummets...) :yep
Not speaking on your other comments, but that is a hell of a jumbo tron! It is nice to be part of the event even if you are seeing it second hand. Yes Arum and OLDH are full of it, though GBP is making an effort on Versus.
