No he just caught and hurt Makabu like Fields and Mchunu did, and unlike them he had the wherewithal to follow up on it and go all out with a barrage and try for the KO, and it succeeded
This. I've always derided him him having as much muscle as a new born baby, but tonight whilst he'll never be ripped he looked healthy. Excellent performance from Bellew.
Prior to last night I thought his best performance was Cleverly I & afterwards his form seemed to be on the decline None of his previous fights at cruiser suggested he was capable of a career best performance like that.
Its weird about his weight. Even at LHW he didn't seem to have any muscle or even look athletic. He didn't look like some shredded guy on the scales that appeared to need to move up. Cleverely actually looked like a guy who was drained down on the scales at 175 more than Bellew.
Very true that's why initially I didn't think he'd be much cop at Cruiser as like you say hes not built as though he struggles to make weight. But credit were it's due he's WBC champion and it was actually an exciting Bellew fight for once.
To be fair he dropped an opponent like a sack of sh5t that he was expected to be stopped by early. He is now WBC champion. The pinnacle of boxing. Whatever happens from this point, he has reached the top and had a massively successful career. Who cares whether he has a good physique? He is clearly more comfortable at the higher weight and that showed in his absolute destruction of MAKABU. There are many African fighters out there that were born with a six pack and look shredded, but they cannot fight for toffee and are absolutely uncoordinated, and they will never even be African champion let alone WBC world champion. This is not a body building contest
I was surprised by the KO, his punches looked like they had little pop and weren't snappy apart from the body rips. Looks can be deceiving though
He can really punch his left hook is a weapon. He picked his shots really well and wasn't scared to take his time finishing him. Gets dropped with his nose broken and showed ***** of steel to stop the guy two rounds later. Great work from the bomber.
He used a good ol school boxing manoeuvre you don't see much these days by pulling the high guard aside with his pawing left and blasted away with the right hooks. Nice job and good win
:good Thought he showed some good feints as well he looked improved to me. He had a real confidence about him last night. Hopefully more people get behind him now.
Yes definitely improved. He's able to physically impose himself and in this division that might just be enough to be number 1. Let's have it right, this isn't a stylistic division. It's a sluggers playground. The top 4 active men are Bellew, Lebedev, Huck and Glowacki. None are slightly subtle with their skills. Afolabi who was slick as **** has now retired. Who there is gonna outbox Bellew? No one at the top of the division imo. So then it's a matter of someone out punching him. Stevenson did so it can be done, whether any of the top 3 can do it is another question.
