Has Canelo ever defeated the #1 in any division without controversy?

The come forward fighter always has the intention of putting his opponents on the ropes. Clenelo couldn't do that because GGG controlled him by circling, circling, circling. If GGG can't fight off the ropes, wouldn't it make sense for Clenelo to pin him there? You boxed yourself in with that one.

How did GGG get his ass kicked when he was never hurt and Clenelo was the one hurt several times? Deveryanchenko legitimately had GGG hurt, but not Clenelo.

You're dealing in theoreticals. Canelo isn't your prototypical come forward fighter. He has demonstrated that he can fight coming forward or backwards. He did not need to trap GGG on the ropes, he was content to fight him in the pocket near center ring where he had much success.

GGG fans are so funny - GGG controlled him by retreating and circling all night and throwing light jabs? This strategy didn't stop Canelo from landing power punches on GGG at will. GGG's little backing away jab and circling did nothing to deter Canelo from walking him down and giving him the beating of his life. The fact that you use GGG's back not hitting the ropes as some kind of a moral victory is very telling.

GGG let down his fans, by not fighting the fight that he asked for out of Canelo. Fans were expecitng a toe-to-toe war as GGG asked Canelo for but when push came to shove, GGG didn't have the guts to fight that kind of a fight, instead he cowardly backed away from the kind of a fight he asked for.

It is still not his biggest fight or win to date. Unless of course you want to pause at Matthew Hatton regarding Alvarez' resume to not fully butcher Gennady "The Tomato Can Devourer" Golovkin's pathetic resume.

That's really what you got from my post?

    Facts
    • The vast majority of fighters, fans, and media had GGG winning
    • Only Clenelo was hurt (several times) in the fight

GGG'S best win was against four division world champ and # 1 PFP rated fighter Canelo, twice for most, once for all but the most lame, like the infamous Adylide Byrde. Wish to add your name to the lame list?

GGG made adjustments and won, like someone with great elite experience does.Oscar had his back though.

He stood toe to toe the whole fight, and those jabs were heavy, rocking Canelo head back repeatedly. Your in the minority and your entitled to your opinion. If you think Canelo outboxed GGG in the first fight, there really isn't much hope for you.

Golovkin's biggest win is Kell "The Welterweight" Brook. Your views on his victories in fantasy sparring sessions are irrelevant. His biggest win is a Welterweight and his loss is against a Light Middleweight. That's all you need to know about the farce.

Clenelo couldn't pin GGG to the ropes due to his incredible footwork. Duh.

 @ Clenelo didn't want to

That's what you were arguing. You suggested that GGG's back not touching the ropes was some kind of indicator that he won, which is rather humorous. You also claim that only Canelo was hurt, not GGG, that's also humorous, as GGG's head being red as a tomato disagrees with you. GGG hocking loogies in the corner taking deep breaths during rounds looking exhausted at the work rate Canelo was maintaining disagrees with you.

If you continue to deny this I have plenty of photos of GGG getting rocked in the rematch for you. You say Canelo was hurt, when? By that flurry in the 10th round? GGG had a nice moment there, but Canelo recovered quickly and got back to work pounding away at GGG. Unfortunately for GGG, that brief moment of success was too little, too late for Little G. He had also lost 6 out of the first 8 rounds so he needed to sweep the last 4 rounds just to get a draw, and he didn't win those rounds convincingly enough.

Canelo didn't need to trap GGG on the ropes since he was having so much success at center ring. Why trap someone on the ropes when you are already putting on a power punching clinic in the middle of the ring?

Your view of what the minority is - is very flawed. I might be in the minority in this forum as this forum has a very pro-GGG majority who defends him at all costs and cries about being robbed.

The first match had various stages. Early on, Canelo was outboxing him, but then GGG stepped up in the middle rounds and applied more consistent pressure to close the distance and it won him some rounds. In rounds 10-12 Canelo let his hands go and momentum swung back towards him which resulted controversially in a draw. Controversially in GGG fans thought GGG won, Canelo fans thought Canelo won. Both felt robbed but it was close enough to settle on a draw. And with a draw that in my view he was lucky to get, GGG didn't lose his title that night.

Many in the press and the public argued GGG won because GGG was coming forward and because Canelo did more fighting off the backfoot than many expected he would. The vast majority don't know how to score a match on the grand stage like that. When the opposite happened in rematch, many of those press people who scored for GGG the first time scored the rematch for Canelo because this time Canelo was the one coming forward. You can't rely on this kind of "style preference" scoring. Canelo deserved to win both matches simply because he landed the more telling, more impactful shots in the vast majority of the rounds. Canelo displayed more ring generalship, better defense in slipping punches, and landed a lot more body shots.
