Has Canelos controversial judges given Canelo too many asterisks for a great status

    No.

Even though he never should have gotten the decision over Golovkin, he was clearly the best LMW and SMW in the world.

    Slightly biased poll options, surely?
If "he builds a resume" as it he doesn't already have a pretty significant one.

Realistically - he'd already be considered somewhere up there... In an era when plenty of champions hid from making big fights (at multiple weights) he's made it happen and gone through multiple divisions.

Yes, it hasn't always been on a level playing field and he's used his A-side privilege plenty... But it'll be the fringe of superfans who knew the details of the controversies - the majority won't see it, realistically.

Canelo is an ATG whatever way you look at it although he benefitted hugely from corrupt officials.

Only fight I thought he lost (that he didn’t lose) was Golovkin I. And Golovkin II the only toss up.

I felt he lost the Lara fight and was given extremely favourable scoring in the Mayweather and Bivol fights which for me were pretty much clean sweeps. I agree on the Golovkin 2 fight though, I had no issues with Canelo getting the nod.

Only GGG1 scoring changed outcome of the fight. Floyd and Bivol scores were closer than they should have been but the right guy won. Lara fought scared, honestly, and didnt deserve the win. GGG2 probably shouldve been a draw and if someone had to win GGG deserved more but Canelo win wasnt outrageous.

GGG1 was the only fight where outcome was wrong. Nonetheless, Canelo using PEDs is a bigger impediment to ATGhood than all those bad judges (and there were a lot of them)

In which Golovkin would have won the Ring mag & Lineal titles, and would have still been champ going into 2019, Golovkin also would have surpassed Hopkins title defense record. Alot of damage is done with crooked judges.

He has had some disappointing performances in wins like Lara, Jacobs and Trout. I thought he clearly beat Trout who was just featherdusting. But Canelo could have looked better.

He was looking great at the beginning vs Jacobs, but then he kind of faded. Still won clearly though.

But he has very clear wins over other very good fighters too.

Better than GGG, whose only clear win over a very good to great fighter imo was the first Canelo fight. Every other fight he either lost or barely scraped by with a razor thin win or a controversial win.

He fought at the elite level in 4 weight divisions. The fights he fought speak for themselves, correct decisions or not. It would be disingenuous to take Canelo's resume at face value though. He deserves only one clear victory over Golovkin and that was when GGG was 40 years old and clearly past it. I would say he is one of the great one's, as is guys like Trinidad, Delahoya. He has been the face of boxing for a long time during this generation.
