    Never a truer sentence said.
They think AA coming off of 2 clear S6 losses is a good win :patsch. Thats AA with no big wins and a fighter who admits he cant compete at SMW. M Veit and M Mkertchyan are bigger SMW victories

Agreed. Calzaghe had so much talent but was content to ride the FW gravy train for a decade of fighting mostly mediocre WBO challenges.

What mediocre challenges. Any fighter that has had 21 defences will have some gimmes but who are you on about. I think Calzaghe has had about 7 gimmes in 24 world title fights. Thats not bad at all

The vast majority were typical WBO challengers. If I'm being generous, after beating Eubank and before picking up steam by facing a then-dangerous Lacy, only Reid, Woodhall, Brewer & Mitchell stand out as good challengers. Maybe Sheika and Starie, with the latter at a considerable push.

Veit and Mkertchyan are more accomplished SMWs than Dirrell, AA, Pascal, Johnson.
Now you are back tracking as Eubank, Lacy, Reid, Woodhall, Brewer, Mitchell, Starie, Sheika all or became top 10 rated fighters when Calzaghe beat them. Veit and Mkertchyan were also. As were Manfredo, Bika and Kessler.
So if Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Sheika, Starie, Veit, Mkertchyan, Bika, Kessler, Lacy, Brewer, Mitchell. Consider also that McIntyre and Pudwill.

So as said I only know of about 7 gimmes in his 24 world title fights

Look at the 1998 Ring mag ratings. Calzaghe beat Reid, Woodhall, Brewer. Ottke wouldnt fight him, Tate backed out and Calzaghe beat the fighter (Mitchell) who KOd #1 Liles

Resumé wise Froch is getting there (had he won over Kessler too, but he didn't). But let's be frank Calzaghe would have outspeeded and outhustled him easily imo. Froch would be tailor made for him.

I knew Simperial1 would make himself look a twat .
Calzaghe did pull out against Ottke with injury. But lets not pretend Calzaghe was worried . Calzaghe pulled out before beating Lacy and 3 times before facing Sheika and look how they went.
Then remember the rest how when Calzaghe was ringside with a view to fighting Johnson. Johnson lost again :patsch to Woods, so Johnson blew his chance.
calzaghe beat Hopkins and Sheika who both beat Johnson and just look at Johnsons SMW resume Its terrible :patsch

In 11 SMW fights Johnson has lost 6 of them.
Johnson has lost at SMW to -

M Sosa who had 5 losses and 2 draws, and lost his next 2 fights after beating Johnson
Kiwanuka who had 3 losses and 2 draws, had lost his last 2 fights coming into his fight with Johnson and his fight after Johnson
Ottke 16-0 who in fairness was an outstanding SMW boxer
Vanderpool 27-1 who lost his next fight, but in fairness that was at MW to Hopkins and Vanderpool had a good run after
Branco 38-4-2 who was a world class SMW and became WBA LHW champ
Sheika who was 19-1 and lost his next fight, though in fairness that was to Calzaghe.

The SMWs that Johnson has managed to beat
Campas 3-20-4 coming off of only 2 losses and won his next fight
Watson 24-16-1, Johnson was his last fight
Renteria 9-23-5 coming in, whos last 10 fight record before facing Johnson was 0-8-2
Zimmerman 15-2-0 coming in, who had lost his previous fight and the one after

Not only did Calzaghe beat Hopkins and Sheika who beat Johnson but at SMW beat Woodhall who beat Branco who beat Johnson
Lacy who beat Vanderpool who beat Johnson

It goes on. I think even Simperial can grasp this

    Now years later Johnson beats
A Green 29-2-0 coming in and Johnsons biggest SMW victory
    Froch who Johnson losses to

Its not impressive now is it. Please spare me the robbery talk. Green coming off a loss is Johnsons best SMW victory :patsch

It's obvious that lots of people on here just jumped on the Calzaghe bandwagon after he beat Lacy and don't remember the days of Calzaghe being involved in boring fights against poor opposition that no one wanted to watch.

Since becoming champion Froch has fought legit opponents back to back and his fight against Kessler is no different to Calzaghe's against Reid, both razor thin 50/50 fights and it's just that being away from home meant that Froch didn't get the decision.

Froch's first defence was away from home against Jermaine Taylor, I guess Branko Sobot must have been busy.

This is getting a myth on ESB isn't it? Afair. Kessler won fair and square over Froch, had it been in England he would still have won, if it was fair.
So why keep repeating this when it's not true, had Kessler lost in England it would have been nominated for ESB robberies of the year imo.
