I remember seeing a interview before his last 2 fights against purdy, and he claimed he was beyond domestic level and was hoping to fight for a world title soon, i think the losses against Purdy has really given him a reality check about how far hes going in this sport.
If he has he shouldn't. He lost 2 fights against a guy who is basically his nemesis. Watson is a class guy, and a good boxer. Only in this ****ing country does 2 losses in a career mean you should pack the game in. I'm sure the lad will be back
I really rate Craig Watson, but let's remember this isn't his first two losses (although he never should have lost to O'Donnell either :deal) and it may have taken too much out of him. I hope not, classy operator and he still has more to give. Maybe test the waters in Prizefighter or summat and get some confidence back? I would say he dealt with Matty Hatton better than Canelo or N'Dou did.
His ability to absorb a punch isn't stellar, he got KO'd by an italian guy whos not well know for his power, and lee purdy isn't a huge puncher either. It depends on how far he wants to go, he might win prizefighter and win the british title but thats really all.
Every average puncher has their day though. Selby wasn't regarded as a big banger and Stephen smith wasn't regarded as glass chinned, but selby found his power against smith. Watson looked like he would do purdy in the first fight, was boxing well. What can you do? If every guy packed in once he's reached ho's "level" we'd have no boxing full stop. The best thing Watson can do is forget about purdy and come back. And if British level is where he's at, there's no shame in that one bit.
Watson is a good domestic level fighter, i was shocked to see him lose to Purdy so convincingly second time around. Hope he doesn't pack it in.
If Craig does come back from his defeat, he needs to train a lot harder, someone who's goin to push him. He looked fleshy as hell. Also he got done in the exact same round as the last fight, its like he's only good for six rounds!!!!!!!!
maybe so but that doesnt excuse the fact that he's been hurt by that shepards bush irish fighter whos regarded as a non hitter and also been stopped by an italian fighter whos not known to punch hard. i dont see any shame in him wanting to fight at british level i'm sure he can earn himself a few decent paydays.
Hello ive not retired just yet im just having a much needed rest - my girlfriend is also pregnant and i will be back in the new year. As for my last two fights i dont need to train any harder - i killed myself in the gym and that was the whole problem, i was run down and over done it. Im not taking anything away from purdy he was on top of his game and beat me but having 3 title fights in 5 months is a big ask for anyone. Anyway looking forward to getting back in the new year and doing what i love, here's hoping 2012brings another title shot : )
