He's said "Once the Hayemaker lands it's all over". At CW except for a few occasions this has been true. However he has been into the later rounds a few times and come through dodgy spells against Fragomeni + Mormeck. He's had stamina issues in the past and the jury's still out on his chin. If he lands the Hayemaker against 16-17 stone fighters and it doesn't have the desired effect, is he good enough to go on the back foot for 12 rounds and keep that chin from getting tagged?
This is something I've thought about myself. I think Haye relies on his power too much. He is a good boxer but I think it's perhaps an area of his make up that isn't worked on enough, especially if he has desires of fighting Klitschko. Good thread.
He was asked a question similar to this after destroying Klitscho but he just smiled and said nobody can stand up to the Hayemaker. Everyone goes on about how fast he is and that's why he can keep the left hand low, but most of his career he's been the aggressor, if he's forced onto the back foot that low left hand becomes a liability.
he doesn't always rely on his power, he has a great power jab similar to miguel cotto's and works behind that, its not his fault none of his opponents went the distance.
yeah we all know the half man was an amazing fighter who unified an entire division. man i cant wait till haye fights the fat nigerian wife beating pedophile.
No, I said he relies on his power too much and there is a difference. And like I said, he has boxing ability but it is a facet of his game that I get the impression he doesn't develop as much as he should. To me he hasn't shown or needed to shown the boxing ability to deal with someone who is on par or superior in terms of skill or ability. When Haye talks it always boils down to whether opponents can take his punch, rather than whether they can cope with his ring savvy. :deal
he does not rely on his power too much, most of his fights he begins by boxing, he doesn't throw many unnecessary shots, he often works off of the jab, when he see's his opponents hurt thats when he goes for the kill, he doesn't throw full force punches with every shot.
Jeremy Williams has as much pop as Haye does. No doubt about it. And he had speed in his prime as well. Just because he didn't campaign at cruiser doesn't mean he wouldn't have done well there. It's pretty easy to understand that he infact would have. Knocking out cruiserweights tends to be easier than knocking out heavyweights.
I disagree. Listening to Haye I honestly believe he thinks that no heavyweight can take his punch, and maybe he's right but I never hear him talking of his ability to outbox fighters or how he has work tirelessly on perfecting his ability to ride punches or how he has tightened up his defence. Let me repeat, I think Haye has the ability but I can see him being in a fight where he will need more than just raw power or the ability to work off the jab. I also disagree that Haye only goes for opponents after he has worked off the jab. Haye creates opening with power punches as well by forcing his opponent on the back foot and to cover up from an onslaught. I certainly wouldn't put Haye in the archetypal boxer mould either. His power punches are a major part of his boxing make up but I think an area he must work on is his ability to box. He needs to be able to revert to Plan B much like Calzaghe did agaisnt Kessler. Granted he hasn't needed to show this yet but his interviews don't fill me with confidence, especially when he talks of beating Klitschko.
i dont think Hayes as fast as people make out.Yeah he looked lightning against Macca but the fight only went just over 4 minutes with Haye landing 5 punches.when taken into the later rounds against Mormeck and Fragomini, although powerful he did'nt strike me as devastatingly quick.I dont think his speed will be a weapon againt Klitschko, the extra 20 pounds will inevitably slow him at heavy.
