Of the two fighters Dirrell seems the less trustworthy, even before the AA fight the word was going around that getting the fight made with Ward would be tough. If Dirrell was lying about his injury, he picked a great way to get out of the fight, neurological damage is a great excuse and it's so serious that not many people will question it. Even Froch was coming out with messages of good will to Dirrell. What gets me is that his whole operation is shady. His family looked like they were telling downright lies when the topic turned to the injury. Dirrell was all "****, I'd better make myself look slow and brain damaged," only for his brother to drop the ball and **** them all over. When it comes to Kessler I think the situation is more subtle. Physically Kessler's a great fighter but he also happens to be one of the most frustrating guys out there. He messed up the prime years of his career with that Palle courtroom drama - that's when he should have been making his legacy. Instead it look like his career peaked with the Calzaghe fight and since then he's been trying to grab the fruit on his way down. In my view Kessler doesn't have a boxer's fighting spirit. He's got other business interests. Why would he let boxing get in the way of all that? I think in beating Froch, Kessler thinks that's a good way to end his career. In a recent interview Froch was talking about Kessler as though he'd retired for good. And if you're getting double vision and having trouble going down stairs (all depth perception issues) what the **** are you doing driving a car? After watching the show I think both of them are lying. Kessler just doesn't care about boxing any more and is trying to get out in a smooth way. Dirrell is just trying to pull some low-level street ****, thinking no one will call him on it.
wtf is he doing driving a car? well it´s not illigal and he is less likely to have punches comming towards him. less likely to have any supprises happen to him on the road rather than in the ring, you can call bs all you want. and the reason he has issues walking down stairs is because he cant judge the angel, not because of the depth. Thus also a valid reason while he can still drive a car. double vision? well in a road there are two sides, as long as he stick to the right one hes fine.
Agreed. And it was said by Kesslers promoter that he can´t look down. You look forward pretty much the whole time you drive.
what shocked me is when Dirrell's brother said "If you wanna make the fight happen, get the money right" but obviously the purses are already agreed upon and also before announcing the injury they kept saying that the dispute was the venue, not the purse. So, I think Dirrll's injury is bull****. As for Kessler I thought he looked sloppy against Froch, even more than against Ward. And he hasn't really looked as sharp since he took nearly a year off after Haussler. I'm disappointed that he quit though, but I don't think he completely lied like Dirrell.
Kessler had Green next. Can't see him bowing out rather than facing Green after his performance against Ward if there wasn't an injury at play. The fact that there was so much **** beforehand with the Dirrell/Ward fight creates room for doubt, though I'm not convinced either way if he's genuine or faking. But with Kessler, he was on a high after beating Froch. He could have picked up another few million (or whatever) fighting Green for not too much risk. The whole driving thing can be taken out of context. He might have double vision when a fighter is standing two feet away from him, but not farther than that, so that's not going to affect his driving? And who's to say he doesn't wear glasses to drive? Can't wear specs in the ring.
i think this affair really exposes andres heart or lack of it- his basic thought process is- **** - im up against a friend- a guy who i know is better than i am- who might stall me with a bad loss- so why should i do it unless im getting paid big big money- a loss is only worth while if its paying, but i cant say that in the open- so i m going to make up an eye issue so i dont come off as being a *****. his cousin basically let the cat out of the bag on 360. if theres one thing i ve learnt, we ve all learnt from these shows- dont let youre friends/relatives become your business managers if you an athlete. lebron james , dirrell, floyd, we re talking to you.
I don't know. The one thing that stops me from completely jumping on the "Dirrell is a *****" bandwagon is that it's a pretty weird injury for a fighter to choose to invent. Bad back? Fair enough; wait until it's fixed. Bad eyes? Get them sorted out. Bad brain, though? Most of the commissions have strict rules about that stuff and are much quicker to turn down a license on those grounds. Why choose an injury that could make setting up future fights harder?
