I was thinking about this and I don't think he has. As a matter of fact it would be pretty hard because there haven't been many fighters around that could match the skill heart and talent of Marquez. Floyds best wins I'd say are Corrales, Castillo, Hatton, and Hoya and probably in that order. Corrales very good win and many picked Floyd to lose this one. Really his last fight against a tough opponent conceived to be a big threat. Corrales was huge at 130 however he was really unproven. This was both guys step up. And Corrales went on to become the man at lightweight. He went 2-2 with Castillo and Casa and in those two losses was ko'd both times. Castillo a very good win and a competitve close yet questionable decision. First fight Castillo was actually coming down from a couple welter fights. First fight was supposed hand injury in a very close one. Second a bit more decisive however still very competitive. Hatton. Very good undefeated p4p ranked at the time. The man at 140. However this was at 147. His fight with Collazo in his first try at 147 left much to be desired. And it was the reason Hatton didn't stay at welter and went back to 140 which was a much better fit. Hoya. Very good fighter was still considered a force at 154 where May decide to move up for the challenge. Hoya was inactive for a year before this fight. When he met Mayorga a year earlier he was inactive for nearly two years before that fight following the Hop kayo. It was safe to say Oscar was halfway into retirement. Floyd has faced some very good opposition. It just simply comes down to May has never faced an elite fighter still on a roll. If Marquez can bring his handspeed power and mobility up in weight he has a very good chance of pulling this upset.
I thought the Judah fight for the first 3 rounds was a very good fight. That fight Floyd got a taste of fighting someone just as quick if not quicker than himself.
Not taking anything away from his win over Corrales... But had Chico not been distracted by the "bull**** drama" going down around/during his camp for the fight. I defo think DCC could have been the best fighter Mayweather has ever fought.
Yea Judah was physically talented but lacked the mental makeup. Marquez though a little older to me is the most complete package May has faced. You could almost say the same thing in reverse with the exception of Marquez facing Pac twice who is undoubtedly elite.
All around pound for pound boxing skill and ability? Absolutely, yes and by a wide, wide margin. Taking natural size into account? Well, the built-in excuses are there, and hard to ignore...
I can't remember all the drama going on then it was a while ago. But i definitely think Corrales was a huge fight at the time. Like I said that was both fighters big step up.
Has floyd ever faced a thinking fighter that is mechanically sound as Marquez? the answer would be NO, but nether as Marquez faced his equal, against a fighter that is mechanically sound as himself.
Disagree, Oscar has a limited skilled right hand. Marguez has power in both hands and he equally skilled in both hands.
PBF would have beaten Chico 100 out of 100 times the difference in class was apparent to those who knew boxing. Him going into the fight with the perfect mind set wouldn't have prevented one of the best clinics of this era.:deal
I think if Marquez takes to the new weight good it will be Floyds toughest fight in his career. I was wanking...i mean thinking....the other day of a fight between the two at 135 or 130 great fights they would have been. I hop JMM carries the weight well and pulls off the W.
