I admire Floyd and enjoy watching him fight but if hes not willing to fight Cotto and retiring means we wont get that pointless rematch with ODLH has he done the sport a favour?

Not really. As pointless the PBF/DLH rematch would be to some, the fact remains that it would bring visibility to boxing.

yes and no, he has done boxing a favour by not taking the de la hoya or hatton rematch. BUT no as he will leave a doubt in peoples minds about miguel cotto's record. If cotto goes on to win against tony and further cements his legacy with other big fights, every1 will look back and wonder....why? what if? could he have? all questions posed when thinking of cotto v mayweather.

it also doesnt do himslef any favours when he took on judah and baldomir and gatti instead of cotto. so in that respect floyd hasnt done boxing, himself or cotto a favour.

No he must come back and fight Cotto.

Cotto is a fighter, undefeated, in his prime years and the joint best in the division. Also i believe Cotto resume is just as good as Mayweathers already.

HYPES doesn't work forever . . . if he won't fight the right fights . . . then it's better for him to get out of the scene.

Anyway . . . he can come back and fight again . . . anytime he is ready and willing.

No it has not, at the end of the day floyd is the best fighter in the world by a long distance who still had a lot to give to the sport. If his retirement is genuine it is not a good day for boxing

Not if Cotto does the business against Margo. These type of fights don't come along every year and although it might not do as well in PPV sales as Hatton or ODLH, it earns both fighters more respect in legacy terms, especially Floyd.
