Has Floyd Mayweather ever had a signature win?

This is not Mayweather's fault, but Corrales was notr mentally ready for that fight, how could he with all the legal trouble he was facing, found huilty, and knowing his sentence was coming.

I would say his best win was Ricky Hatton, but as someone already mentioned, it was not the Hatton from the Tszyu fight who took all Tszyu threw his way, it was the Hatton who almost got KTFO 3 times, twice by a shot Lazcano, and once by a B level Collazo.

In short, Mayweather always sought out the easiest fights against the biggest names post Castillo.. Mayweather does not take chances.

In retrospect, the version of Hatton that fought Floyd was past his prime. Prime Hatton was when he fought Tszyu. Hatton wasn’t really ever in danger of being KO'd at 140. It wasn’t until he moved up to 147 that he became chinny. Whether that was age catching up to him, whether that was the additional weight, whether it was Hatton drinking too much beer between fights, who knows, but certainly he didn’t have the same speed and explosiveness he had when he fought Tszyu. Still, he got himself into great shape vs Floyd and he was a lot more motivated to fight Floyd than he was vs Collazo. So I do think Floyd fought a better version of Hatton than the Hatton that fought Collazo, but it wasn't the truly prime 140 Hatton that fought Tszyu.

But still I think that’s a signature win for Floyd nonetheless, as Hatton’s condition was out of Floyd’s control.

You are right. Fighting Oscar and Cotto at their best weights of 154 and an undefeated Alvarez did not involve taking a chance at all.:patsch

Oscar was about 4-5 years removed from his prime. Cotto was a mess, and had already been BRUTALLY KTFO by Margarito and Pacquiao... Alvarez is still developing. It's like saying Margarito's best win was Martinez, or like saying Jones best win was Hopkins... We don't say that because these fighters were still developing and very young.

Did you say this going into PBF-Cotto when PBF was facing jail time right after that fight? Of course you didn't had he lost you wouldn't have said he was facing jail time and mentally wasn't there. It's an excuse period to discredit the win.

Always an excuse. Oscar and Cotto held belts at 154, Oscar having ko'd Mayorga and Cotto having stopped that cur Margarito. Alvarez was undefeated and weighed in only one pound less than his previous fight. You always take a chance when you step in the ring. To say that Mayweather never took any chances is idiotic, to be honest. Additionally, Mayweather wasn't in his prime either and definitely fought those three above his best weight.

Stop being so defensive.. It was one of Floyd's biggest wins, but he never dominated another top level fighter in that manner again.. And Corrales never performed as terribly ever again.

    Not Floyd's fault.

Floyd struggled a lot against Cotto, while Pacquiao destroyed Cotto.

Of course you take chances when you step in the ring, even when you drive a car, or sky dive etc.. But Floyd only takes fights he believes in his mind he cant lose.. Hence the reason he avoided Margarito, Williams, and a prime Cotto, and the reason he chose to fight Andre Berto.

And PBF was headed to jail wasn't menatally there like you said Chico was so by your own logic that explains his performance in that fight but unlike Chico PBF still found a way to win.

Cotto's camp was i shambles and his confidence was poor considering he had been KTFO twice, his father dead, and no trainer.

But yes, Mayweather is a better fighter than both Cotto and Corrales.

In any of those fights he would be the favorite over anyone in the world 154 and down. So that means no matter who he fights he doesn't take chances because he would be the favorite.

lol How many fighters go into to the fights that they believe in their mind they will lose? That's why Alvarez won't fight Golovkin. What is a "prime" Cotto? Arum wouldn't let Cotto fight Mayweather at 140. Margarito can justifiably be called a "bum" and who knows if he ever beat anyone in a fair fight. I agree that Mayweather didn't fight Williams but his loss to Quintana didn't help that fight to get made.

He would not have been the favorite aganst Williams for sure. Margarito has usually always been very underrated, and against a prime miguel Cotto, who knows what the bookies would say. We do not know.
