Has Floyd REALLY retired or not?

So you think he should've fought him after the Maidana rematch?

 

I fully understand why Floyd decides not to fight certain fighters and don't criticize his decisions since they make financial sense and have extended his career and kept him at the top. However, as all human behavior has consequences, such evasive actions also have their consequences. In this case they cast a certain serious doubt on his vaunted invincibility. But Floyd obviously considers that an acceptable price to pay in order to get rich and stay active as long as possible. Very savvy businessman-that's for sure.

After he really retires I see him becoming a very successful promoter, manager or maybe both.

 

I hear you. But following Floyds career, he really can't win with some people. I'll use Shane Mosley as an example. Before Floyd became huge, before the Delahoya fight, the guy was coming up (undersized) and calling out everybody. He was calling out Shane Mosley. The fight was never made, for whatever reason. Maybe Arum, maybe Shane didn't think the reward was worth the risk. But it wasn't because Floyd didn't want the fight, that was obvious.
The Floyd becomes "Money" Mayweather and everybody wants to fight him. The fans start saying he's ducking Shane Mosley.
Then he fights Mosley, in Mosleys next fight after destroying Concreto. He dominates Mosley.
Everyone says Mosley was washed up and too old, that Floyd cherry picked him.
The guy seriously cannot win.

And IF he had fought Thurman instead of the Maidana rematch, he would've been ducking Maidana (after arguably losing to him). If he had fought Thurman after the Maidana rematch, he would've been ducking Manny.

 

That was his last fight. Right after beating his career rival and making $200 million. No, Berto didn't deserve the fight. But that just Floyd finishing out his contract. I don't think anybody expected anything more from that fight.

 

When? After the Pacquiao fight? I just said he clearly picked the easier fight, but bigger name for that fight. Why does anybody care about that fight. He was going through the motions and finishing out his contract. So if you are saying that he "ducked" Thurman for that fight, ok. But he didn't "duck" him for the Maidana rematch or PAC fight.

 

Reminds me of the story about a peasant on his way to town riding a donkey with his son.

People who saw them began to criticize them for being cruel to the donkey.

So the father dismounted.

People then accused the son of cruelty against his elderly father who had to walk..

So the son dismounted and had the father ride as he walked alongside.

People began accusing the father of being cruel to the son.

So they both dismounted and walked alongside the donkey.

People then began criticizing them for stupidly not availing themselves of riding the donkey.

And he was more relevant, but Berto was more known.

And also, Floyd has known Berto for a while. Maybe he wanted to give him a payday. Who knows.

He was more well known then Thurman at that time. Without a doubt.

 

So who fights the best in their weight class for every fight in their career? Probably no one.. I'm guessing you wouldn't say Thurman cherry picked ant old Floyd like some people say Floyd cherry picked an old De La Hoya.. No one can cherry pick Floyd when he's old, but Floyd cherry pick guys when he was coming up...smh
