Charley Goldman had the answer to this. If you watch Marciano when he fought Joe Louis, you'll notice Marciano stays out of punching range and comes crashing in with the overhand right. Joe Louis wasn't fast enough to catch him coming in, and Foreman was slower than Joe. Marciano would send him to the hospital like he did to Carmine Vingo, Joe Louis, Rex Layne. Louis and Layne were betting favorites against Marciano, and were brutalized because they just couldn't hit him.

You fool! No matter how logical or well thought out your analysis, Foreman KOs Maricano early cuz Foreman KOs Frazier is the only right answer.

Rocky Marciano would have ended Foreman's career! :rasta

After being savagely knocked out, Foreman would see god and quit boxing to father children named after himself.

young george foreman was a prety raw talent. had george beat a 32 year old ali twice then retired after beating frazier again his record would match marciano and id have no problem accepting him as a top3 great.

I rate foreman within my top ten but there is an argument george at his title winning finest was not the finished article. for all his power george was prety lightly matched and frazier was a litle shopworn.

I dont think foreman beat the frazier that ellis met yet there are those who are convinced a peak marciano fares as bad against foreman as the frazier who had already been through a mangle beating ali. frazier took more punches winning against ali than all the guys ali had actualy defeated until that point, even chuvalo and terrell took less. frazier was the best heavyweight at that time but wasnt quite where he was before the ali fight. his resistance was not the same. people get carried away with the frazier/ marciano comparison- its a lazy example. an example i have not seen used is that of harry greb. ok nobody alive has seen him but he was a tireless fighter who was never knocked out. marciano was a heavyweight version with knockout power on each hand. if greb can give away weight steaming in why not marciano?

before I get torn apart by those who use the "stylisticly wrong for marciano" cliche I am asking in advance show me evidence of marciano being blown away. where is it? Its only a convincing argument if it hapened before. "could" and "was" are not related.

foreman had a lot of advantages against marciano, but if i was managing foreman i would keep him away from marciano. the norton and the frazier he did fight would be safer options. as big as he was norton had been KO'd before and couldnt fight off the back foot and fraziers people were already being "selective" with chalengers at about that time, a sure sign he was slipping a bit in the gym.

    Yes.

I think that is more reasonable from a stylistic perspective.

why? I give both a chance. both had experience, workrate and seasoning on young george as well as sufficient knockout power in both hands for the job.

I'd favour George against pretty much any fighter who comes to him. Double standards from you I reckon. Dempsey came forward as much as Marciano, and had a weaker chin. Don't see how Dempsey beats Foreman.

dempsey did not have quite the whiskers against 4 and 6oz gloves with extra tapes that were not alowed in georges day. dempsey did not attack in streight lines. he circled and struck fast from outside at an angle, smothered and was very busy inside. why would george find the room or catch him on the way in against an angle?

We know that a young Foreman is going to come right out and try to destroy Rocky from the opening bell ala Frazier. The big question is whether or not Rocky can survive such an onslaught. He never faced a man with the combination of size and power that George possesed. Louis had size and some power left when he met Rocky but was old and the speed and snap were gone. Joe didn't go balls to the wall in his approach like he did in his fights with Baer and Schmeling II because he couldn't. He had to conserve whatever energy and stamina he had left. If Rocky elects to trade with Foreman early then it's curtains. His best chance is to get down low and make George miss often while avoiding getting tagged too often himself. All the while getting some hard shots of his own. Rocky has to let his superior stamina come to his aid. If he can get out of the first few rounds relatively unhurt his chances improve dramatically. Unfortunately that's a king sized "if". Walcott came right at Rocky in thier 1st fight and dropped him and hurt him. Foreman is another monster altogether. The most likely scenario in my mind is Foreman by ko within 3 or 4. It's not impossible for the Rock but try as I might I just can't go against George in a shootout.

marciano was beter than the guys who lasted past the 4th round reletivly unhurt against george. 190lb roberto davila lasted the distance against george even though joe bugner knocked him out. peralta did 20 rounds with foreman and pastrano knocked him out. marciano was faster than jack ohalloran who hurt george before geting into the 5th. i dont see how it is a king sized "if" when those guys did.

I'm thinking of the version of Foreman that destroyed Frazier and Norton. Cherry picking of course but that version I feel would've been too much for Marciano. Anyone can have an off night (or nights) against a certain opponent(s) or always look bad against the right (or wrong) man but that Foreman I think would win. Foreman was certainly better than the Cockell that Rocky fought and Don went 7 or 8 rounds absorbing haymakers before succumbing so you never can tell. You did raise some good points though.
