[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJ2Y4soHMWc[/ame] just watched Froch's debut and noticed that his punching speed seems better, even refered to as "lightning fast" by Richie woodall! wouldnt hear many people complimenting Froch's speed now. Seems like hes lost speed as hes bulked up or could just be age. Or are worldclass fighters just that much faster?
can't remember froch ever being lightning quick, i think he used his jab to better effect early on. now he just seems to want to go to war all the time
He's always went to war throughout his career - Odin, Adamu, Porras, Magee, Reid etc. were all fights he could have made easier for himself.
Carl's built his game around being awkward. His punches are hurtful and he has a crafty style that has glaring flaws but you got to be a decent operator to capitalize on them and you got to be a hard kid to keep capitalizing on it because he will get to you eventually. But speed has never been his strong point.
Carl isnt awkward. He's flat footed uses no angles and simply walks at his opponent with his chin in the air taking shots for no dam good reason. Theres plenty of decent box punchers at 68. ALL of them stand him on his head.
never said there weren't any decent punchers at 168. His style isn't the norm and for guys like the guy he fought in the video he's awkward because they don't know how to deal with him because they just are not very good. At world level against better opposition his glaring flaws get shown up as we've seen. His war mongering is beyond stupidity..but for the most part it's exciting.
Similar to when people use to say why doesnt Ricky use his great boxing skills anymore, the reality is it is easy to look like a prime Duran in Hattons case when youy are fighting human punching bags like Olivera and Stewart and similar to Froch against local binmen it looks alot better soon as they step up there speed/skills are now competing agaisnt the very best.
I do think he has lost some speed for sure, especially in his last couple of fights maybe he is on the slide, becuase I still go by that Kessler in the Froch fight would of been hammered by Ward.Dirrell and Abraham I didnt think he looked anywhere near his best and he still did enough to beat Froch which I feel is worrying for Carl.
Froch isnt as fast as when he first turned pro, by any means, he used to be alot faster on his feet as well. I like Froch but I find myself pulling my hair out when watching him, trying to will him to do more and not be so lazy. He almost threw it away against C Adamu years ago for the CW title. If Froch threw combinations, I think he would become a better fighter than the one who throws one at a time. But what do I know? Nothing
Carl would have been found out technically a long time ago had he not had the intangiables to back up his awkward style i.e. chin, strength, power, stamina, heart etc
