    In terms of matchmaking????

Now, I'm a huge Canelo fan, & think he might be the goods, but I'm not blind to see he has been matched against soft competition....

    Lopez- career 140 pounder
Mosley- Shot & never good above 147
    Cintron- Was never that good

Those were his recent fights, Lopez/Mosley were too small, & Cintron sucks. IMO, Canelo should have fought a frindge top 10-15 154 pounder, someone like Rosado, Angulo or Delvin Rodruguez before facing possibly the top 154 pounder in Trout. At least those guys are his size, & would have gave him some resistance, make him.work for the win. He's taking a HUGE step up in class. GB shoulda matched him better before jumping to Trout, with natural 154 pounders. It's kind of like Berto, fought soft comp his whole career, then finally is matched with a good fighter in Ortiz, & gets whooped! I still think Canelo KO's Trout, but GB has done NeLo no favors in matching him softly before.

Yeah, GBP has matched him pretty softly. The fact that he won a vacant title against a C level WW says it all. We'll see on April 27th if it has hindered him or not. I know they wanted a step up fight for him before the Trout fight, but circumstances prevented that.

Perhaps having thrown him in with tougher fighters before the age of 21 would have been "mishandling his career."

He's a star generating a ton of money. I would say they've done a great job.

yeah.. they gave him extremely soft opposition and now rush him in to a legit superfight...

He should ve had Angulo, Rosado and Lara-like opponents the last 2 years...

Trout is a big move up for him. However for a 22 year old with presumbly a long career a head of him. He's been brought up pretty well. He still needs to prove he's more than his hype though.

It's a legitimate point. Quite a step up really.

His level of opposition didn't warrant the amount of hype he was getting. With that kind of hype he's expected to step up to a major fight

Lara would be a harder fight than Trout

Agree with Angulo and Rosado, Kirkland would have been good too. all winnable fights for Canelo

But he is still one of the best at 154. Canelo has never faced anyone as good and it might backfire.

Cintron was still a good enough win that Trout is a logical step up.

He was brought up to make money, much like Chavez Jr... or Chavez before him.

Which exactly what they should have done with a marketable guy.

This is a business first and foremost... fans tend to forget that.

This isn't the NFL/NBA/MLB/EPL where fans show up even if the team isn't doing good and everyone still makes money. Prizefighters have a very limited window if they are good enough to make money... you have to maximize your income against risk.

Canelo is exactly where he should be at this point.

Also, Cintron might be a giant douche bag, but he was a World Champ. In his prime he was a pretty decent fighter with a good punch. Sucks he never had a fighters mentality though, but he didn't suck.
