Has Haymon promoted Wilder as well as Loeffler has GGG?

Wilder's people have done a masterful job getting someone with such mediocre boxing skills to the title and through several defenses.

 

Great post but I think you answered most of your own questions. I am by no means an insider either but Loefler seems to get unfairly targeted by the micro managers and agenda mongers on here. First he is a poor promoter because he lacks the influence with N. American boxing establishment, sanctioning bodies ect. ect. Then he is called a bad promoter for giving too many concessions to his fighters opponents.

He had to do this with Jacobs because he was the only viable opponent for GGG at the time who was willing to even negotiate and they did not want to stall GGG's career even longer if Jacobs walked away from the fight. These are just obstacles Loefler has to deal with when promoting fighters to an audience and boxing establishment that is not likely to embrace them.

 

We are contrasting him to Wilder here, who has not headlined an American PPV period.

In the early 00s and 90s maybe, but no active American based fighter is going to pull that these days no matter who they knock out. That's just the truth of the matter. We are living in a different time, Golovkin is meeting expectations.

5 voluntary defenses against weak competition nobody has in their top 10. And all this in anticipation for a mandatory rematch with Stiverne. It's unreal.

 

I have to admit I was one of the guys raging over Loeffler as a promoter. I was so sure that Oscar had not only mugged GGG out of Saunders' belt but also wasted another year of Golovkin's life. I'm very happy to say that I was wrong. Loeffler is legit.
