Has Hopkins ever fought a decent fighter at their own weight class?

I should have said 'good' instead of 'decent' and that would have ruled Tarver out.

That is the epitome of a strawman's arguement.

Give me a ****ing break Jack...your much better than that.

Let me know if Lockett becomes a force at three weights, wins multiple titles and maintains his top form well into his 30s.

Lockett is a marginally decent fighter...and honestly, I wouldnt even go that far.

BTW, let us not forget that Johnson said that Hopkins was "by far" the best fighter he has ever faced. His words, not mine.

And Sweet Pea? Journeyman? Glenn Johnson? WTF is going on here...have all the good posters lost their ****ing mind or something?

    :patsch

He has fought alot of decent fighters in his own weight class.

He has fought numerous very good ones as well.

    Taylor
    Holmes
    Johnson
    Roy Jones
    Tarver

That his record is mixed against them is one of the things I hold him to account for, but Hopkins has certainly faced tremendous competition.

I've posted the arguments multiple times. Beating Glen Johnson at that point in time was akin to beating a C grade fighter with an overinflated record. Glen hadn't beaten a top 50 middleweight in accumulating that record and his opponents, if I remember correctly, didn't even have a winning record as a whole- which is pretty hard to do when you've got 30+ fights. He followed the Hopkins bout by losing every time he stepped up in class for years. Bernard saw the same things fans at the time did- a paper tiger record being sported by an easy mark.

What Johnson did 10 years after the fact is a testament to how he improved...but guess what? He improved from being a journeyman with an overinflated record going into the Hopkins fight.

oh barf!!! how can anyone compare glenn johnson to lockett? look how far the roadwarrior has gotten and what has lockett done? segundo mercado, antwun echols, and tito trinidad, esp tito, were all very good victories. tito was at his best at 154 and when they fought tito was 158. he had just finished koing joppy. all those wins were more than decent

Johnson/Roy Jones/Tarver/Trinidad (hes more of a 154 pounder but close enough)/Taylor (suppose to be the next great)

Middleweight division was pretty weak during that time

I thought Glen Johnson was undefeated when Hopkins fought him and had fought like 32 fights or something.

i cant believe someone is actually trying to cheapen glen johnson just to back up his preferred fighter.

if any fighter deserved respect it was johnson. a fighter who fought 'away' and lost close decisions more than once and who made his name out of true grit and determination the same way gatti did.

and you want to turn around and refer to him as "a paper tiger record being sported by an easy mark".

sinc ewhen was johnson an easy mark - even now - and maybe you'd like to reflect on the fighter you're defending after saying this instead of clamming up when you need to defend him?
