Has Hopkins officially earned the title "Greatest Middleweight Ever"

    Hopkins 20 title defenses and decade long reign as middleweight champ should automatically had him placed as a top 5 middleweight. But Hopkins recent success at LHW should put him first among ATG middleweights. Hopkins is the first linear MW champ to become the linear LHW champion ( twice won) which no fighter has ever done. At 6'1 and having one of the best chins ever he would pose problems for any ATG in MW in history. I think Hopkins recent success at LHW (at 46) makes his MW reign that much more impressive.

    Huge Hopkins fan, love him to death, but has he ever beaten a hall of fame caliber Middleweight or Lightheavyweight? I think maybe Tarver at a stretch could make it to the hall. And Jones in the rematch when he was completely shot to bits. Apart from that, no one.

    No he has not -

    He reigned over a very weak middleweight division - further diluted by the four alphabet titles on offer - of his 20 defenses theres plenty of weak sauce opposition and if you look at the company your trying to place him at the top of - well you just look like a over excited fanboy :

    Robinson
    Hagler
    Monzon
    zale
    la Motta and thats just for starters ,

    I'd rate bernard in or around the fringes of the all time top 10 but no higher than that .

    He is the best of this era. Nobody really gave a damn about the middleweight division until Trinidad went up in weight, after that people tried to over hype some average fighters just to create interest in that division. Hopkins really didn't have any legitimate competition.
    Calzaghe beat him, Jones was shot. Tarver was never that good, most successful thing he didi was Ko Jones with a lottery punch.
