Has ITV done a REALLY poor job at marketing the Khan fight and boxing in general?

When Khan was with Sky, they used to put out so much advertising and interviews in the lead up to fights. There was both TV and online build-up.

Yet, with ITV1, it seems like they have made zero effort to promote boxing with the up coming Khan fight. It really pisses me off.

They should be using the opportunity to re-build their coverage of boxing and I think boxing fans need to campaign harder to make the channel take notice. The reason why channels invest so heavily in relatively boring sports like Golf coverage and Moto GP racing is because, I believe, fans of these sports lobby more than proponents of Boxing.

Please write to ITV to express your disappointment, if you feel, like I do that they have done a really poor job at promoting a British boxing World Champion.

TBF its probably a one off fight their showing, thats being shown at 2am so there probably not expecting prime time viewing figures, but yes i do agree with u that the marketing for this fight has been very disappointing, has anyone even seen a advert for it yet

Agree totally, I saw a thread on another forum this morning asking if Khan-Malignaggi was on Sky Box Office which speaks volumes about the lack of advertising it's had.

Can't agree with you calling MotoGP a boring sport though. :nono

They paid very little for it and it's on a graveyard slot - they were never going to do much promotion (if any - I haven't seen any) for the fight.

Sky have to promote it because it was on ppv, so ITV were never going to come remotely close to Sky. I do agree, however, that it has been very under-promoted.

ITV dont care if anyone tunes into this. They were given the rights to screen the fight for free.

They have done a terrible job of marketing. Like I said, fighters don't fight often so when they do fight it is an event. This fight should be all over the papers, all over the internet and all over TV! The brawl at the weigh in should be advertised like crazy.

    Oh well.

Has it been advertised at all during the cup final coverage so far? Not that I've seen.

Everybody goes on about how boxing needs to be on the terrestrial stations but what's the point when they make no effort to advertise? I've heard a lot more talk about the Mitchell fight this week. Even my friends who only watch boxing on a casual basis seem more interested in that one. Pretty astonishing when you consider the relative merits of Khan and Mitchell. I don't think my casual boxing friends had even heard of Kev until recently. It just goes to show what a good job Sky do promoting their fights.

ITV have done a terrible job of publicizing this and it is hardly going to encourage promoters to seek out terrestrial coverage in the future.
