Has ITV done a REALLY poor job at marketing the Khan fight and boxing in general?

its easier for Sky to sell a fight because everyone watches Sky Sports News and the only reason people watch ITV is to see Coronation Street.

I'd call my dad a casual fan, in that he watches Hatton, Khan and Haye fights and that's about it. He had no idea the fight was on ITV until I told him.

It would hardly be a shocker if it did.

It doesn't matter how much marketing ITV do, no casual or new fan is going to stay up until 4AM.

Itv have put thier cards on the table regarding boxing ie they dont see it as being profitable and so arent supporting it. Never mind that building up Hamed, Froch, khan, hatton, calzaghe, benn, eubank etc made them into stars that crossed over into main-stream figures and delivered big viewer numbers. They arent willing to look at the long term benefits and are looking for immediate value which is stupid and damages our sport. As does BBC spending our T.V licence money on the vastly more expensive forumla 1 well they need to let the Audley fiasco go and back the sweet science too.

As for the Khan lack of promotion, im not surprised. It was a 1 off from ITV, they pretty much got a freebie and with Khan being a name they wouldnt want to spend money on advertising when they knew it wouldnt be a recurrent thing

That's because there aren't any long term benefits to them. Benn and Eubank are the only two on that list who delivered really big viewer numbers for ITV and that tellingly was pre-sky. Hatton was always on Sky. Khan hit five or six million for ITV which was decent, then buggered off to Sky before getting any fights that could have done even bigger numbers, Froch started on BBC iirc and had a few fights on ITV, none of which really delivered in terms of audience. ITV had Calzaghe against Lacy (at 2am), Bika and Manfredo and think that was it, then he went back to the pay channels.

    According to Frank Warren:

Saturday's shows had excellent viewing figures - Sky pulled in a very big audience, while nearly 600,000 people stayed up to watch Khan on ITV at 4.30am.
Next morning, 1.5million watched a replay of the fight while the FA Cup final highlights attracted 300,000.

    This content is protected

sounds to me like ITV would be stupid not to sign a deal with Khan. 600k at 4:30am, followed by 1.5m at 10am!! That seems pretty impressive given they put zero marketing effort into advertising the fight. :good

Imagine what Khan v Katsidis on ITV1 during primetime with proper advance advertising would be bring in?

Hopefully this will be the start of more boxing on terrestrial TV.

According to Dan Raphael, Khan Malignaggi had 1.5 mill viewers on HBO which is the highest since Arreola-Klitchko
