Have they promoted a big fight in the states, like in Vegas, NY, or Atlantic City? If not do you think they will at any point in time or will they keep the brothers in Germany and Europe?
Brock in NY, Iggy in NY, Arreola in LA. They have promoted fights in the US but when they can sellout 65,000 stadiums within DAYS, why would they want to come here? In reality, it comes down to who they are fighting. If the name works in the states then there is a better chance of brining it here
Chef, it seemed for a while that the brothers were essentially alternating back and forth between Germany and the U.S., but the past several fights have basically all been there (save Vitali's beatdown of Arreola). I understand the fact that they are superstars in Germany, but wasn't that the case before? What happened? It seems like after Ibragimov put on that spoiling performance against Wlad at MSG things changed.
the better question is apart from the main event will there be a half decent fight on the undercard there last few that ive seen have been a disgrace
after the Iggy fight, which Wlad is the first person to say was boring and he should have done more, HBO has bailed the brothers. Its doesnt make sense to bring a fight to the US with NO US TV coverage. Might as well stay in Germany and get paid 100% from RTL (German TV) They have been talking to showtime. Its kinda funny this thread came up. I just talked to wlad about it. He is trying to bring a fight to the US. We talked about maybe Peter (as he is #2 IBF) at the staples Center in LA for December...... Dont quote me... just wishful thinking at this point... all depends on what other fights happen and who wins
Thanks for answering. With all the gate and television money they can generate in Germany, it makes perfect sense. It's frustrating about HBO, but I'm sure it doesn't help that there's such a dearth of American talent in the division to help them sell the fights to domestic audiences.
thats true. No american talent at HW. I do know they want to fight here. and so I . I would love a training camp in LA. I could finally be close to home:yep
HBO and non German mugs want no part of a Waldo circus show. Who wants to watch a giant monster like Waldo paw a jab for 12 rounds, afraid to let his hands go against midgets? They Iggy fight was the last straw. People were walking out half way through, it was the most disgraceful unification fight of all time.
Sure, Wlad could have been more aggressive but it's hard to look impressive when your opponent is fighting like Ibragimov did. A disgraceful performance. I don't put an ounce of blame on Wlad, who fights most affectively as an aggressive counter puncher. What can be do when a guy hides behind two oversized gloves all night?
Because every time he did, it hit Ibragimov's gloves. I think he should have aimed at Ibragimov's shoulders, seeing as be could afford to lose a few rounds because he wasn't landing clean shots. But yeah, the fight was terrible. However, Wlad couldn't force Ibragimov to fight. Had he chose to, he would have got knocked out, so he didn't. Simple as that. I don't fault his brother for the Johnson fight, I don't fault Froch for the Dirrell fight and so on.
The Iggy disaster really did damage to Wlad ability to promote in the US...plus no real US talent to be seen. Maybe Adamek in AC (that would be a pretty good fight) but it would be probably even bigger in Poland or Germany.
