Amir Khan has clearly had a hugely impressive professional career. The money he has made is not proportionate to his sporting achievements but thats his good fortune. This is mostly explained by the fact that he had such a high profile when he turned pro and so was making good money from day 1. I was wondering has he ever been number 1 in a division that he has campaigned in? The way he conducts himself you would assume he was a long reigning, all conquering champion who had dominated for years.
To go of to fight the number 1 p4p fighter in Manny Pacqauio who was also a 147 champion duck much? Khan ducked alexandra 1 year earlier because he thought he was going to fight mayweather
to be fair, khan beat devon fair and square, whilst brad got a gift and was beaten handily 3 times out of 3 by manny....but still didn't fight khan. khan wasn't ducking, he was stalling and eventually did fight devon - Bradley clearly was ducking since he never did the proverbial deed.
This is a reason why Khan gets a lot of abuse for his delusional outbursts. For example, Khan says he is on a level with Mayweather and Pacquiao, those two were the top men at multiple weights yet Khan hasn't been number 1 in a single weight. A lot of his career has been carefully handled with a touch of smoke and mirrors, Khan is not elite, never had been and never will be. Another example, Khan has been a world champion at one weight but fought in 4 different weight classes yet Adrien Broner has won world titles at 4 different weights. So Khan's career really needs to be put on some sort of perspective in terms of achievements.
yeh Bradley has proved he is pretty brave through his resume since. but bear no bones he ducked khan fair and square.
I read earlier that Khan has been in with 12 World champions in his career and that tells you all you need to know about his level of competition. When you consider what stage of their careers they were at it is not hugely impressive. Here they are Gairy St Clair (A former 130lb champ he fought at 135 1 year after he last held title) Marco Antonio Barrera (A true legend but fought Khan at 135 and 35 years old) Andriy Kotelnik (A genuine champ at 140 who Khan himself described as worst champion at any weight) Paul Malignaggi (A former champ who last held title 18 months earlier) Marcos Maidana (Only an interim champ who Khan was reluctant to face, a good win though) Zab Judah ( Unification fight so reluctant to criticise, had beat Mabuza for title) Lamont Peterson (Had only been interim WBO champ before he lost to Bradley. Beat Khan albeit close) Danny Garcia (Had just won a vacant title against 35 year old Morales. Knocked Khan out) Julio Diaz ( Had been 135lb champ 6 years earlier fought Khan at 143lb catchweight) Luis Collazo (former 147lb champ. Not been champ for 8 years) Devon Alexander ( former 147 champ lost to porter 1 year earlier) Saul Alvarez (Arguably number 1 middleweight but of course knocked Khan out)
