According to his website, he is still "Undisputed Champion of the World". And his website insinuates he will fight with "Kostya vs TBA", like it has for the last 5 years. And he keeps denying he's retired, yet looks like a bloated midget. I'm officially an ex-fan.
So you honestly think KT will fight again? By continuing to sign off in his website and all promotional material as "Next Fight: KT vs TBA" is suggesting to all his fans that he will be fighting again competitively. As Devoy mentioned he keeps denying he has retired and keeps saying that he would come back into the ring for a big fight (only recently he mentioned a fight against Mayweather would bring him back). Does he honestly expect his fans to believe any of this is even a remote possibility? Don't get me wrong I think KT has been an absolute champion. But I'd have a lot more respect for him if he would just come out and say I'm retired, and stop leading the media and his fans into thinking that his mind is still not made up. Seriously you can't make up your mind in 5 years?? The honest truth is, KT gets to maxmize earnings from his business and retail line by being able to market himself as a "Current fighter" as opposed to a retired one.
At least he's not doing the I'm retired, oh wait, I want to fight again, he's openly saying he could be enticed back at the right money, just like most other retired fighters, has the website been updated recently, or has it been like that since hatton??
Agree to some extent Panda. But it's baloney-that-pays-well, and that's pretty much the basis of most business, boxing or otherwise.
Kostya has always said he will only fight again if he has a real reason to. i just thought maybe a rematch with Phillips might be a good enough reason. it could be a farewell fight for Kostya and it would give him a chance to avenge his loss.
Revenge would be pretty hollow 13 years later. But perhaps not quite as hollow as Fenech's 16 years later, against a 50 year old Azumah.
KT will never fight again, atleast not with Lewis in his corner thats for sure lol. Its funny really because if you look at Fenech he retired many times and still did very well on the finance side of things, his sports range still sells and has done so long after retirement , to think that the reason is finanical is a bit odd in my eyes when comparing it to Fenechs retirment and the finances he still gains todate. However its apparent this is the reason why KT hasnt said he is retired, he is concern it will impact on his finacial gainings and would have been advised of this by his financal manager at the time which i think was Matt Watt. Its also odd whats happen to his website of recent. After doing a bit of investigations it would appear the problem is a hosting issue or KT has requested that the website services be shut down. The domain is still registerd to nextgen.net which also host his site, the domain hasnt expired but this doesnt mean that his hosting hasnt expired as the hosting is seprate to the domain registration. You can register a domain for 5 years but usually hosting for the actual files , pictures etc to display that website is on another package and is charged either by the month or per year, it could be the case that he hasnt paid his hosting fees and the host has turned off the server the files were hosted on, thus giving a 404 error, or KT has asked the site to be taken offline. I think that its more so the 2nd due to recent exposures about KT in Lewis's book, members would be asking questions KT doesnt want to answer so the easy way is to just avoid it all together and close the site down. He has yearly Crew fighter events that are organised on his forums, even if he ducked questions they would still arise at these events, my guess is he wants to take a huge step back and avoid any questions in regards to comments lewis has made in his book, he may also be somewhat embarased and doesnt want to participate with his fans on the online forums anymore. In any event its the first time in years that the sites been offline.
Look ya bunch of ****tards Kostya quit , he was a spanked into retirement 6 years back by a bloke tagged as an average fighter on this board ( WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU ) ?
Anyone who tags Ricky Hatton as average, doesn't know boxing. Tszyu's place is history is secured as one of the great Jnr Welters though.
It's very interesting to work out where Tszyu sits on the all time 140lbers list. Without going too deeply into it, and off the top of my head, I'd probably rank him behind Antonio Cervantes, JC Superstar and Aaron Pryor. Regardless, he's right up there.
3 front foot fighters.. all with huge power.. all able to pick off oponents if needed.. NONE could take a serious shot from Tszyu... Especially Cervantes. He'd fail to keep a distance with jab after jab as his offence. The only negative is all 3 are orthodox. Pryor's drink bottle needs attention too. Tszyu's 'chess player' boxing mind would get the better soon enough. He'd out work, work out and out box the bunch. IMO
Don't get me wrong mate, I'm not saying they beat KT, but I'd probably rank them higher at 140lbs. Hatton's front foot tactics didn't do too badly though did they?
