Definitely, Chilemba is very slick, elusive fighter, but I had a feeling that Kovalev was no more in his prime. I am a fan, not an expert, I can not explain ...but something was going in a wrong way...I would like to read your attitudes and opinions, without hatred...

I'd say he's in his prime, that's not a worry for me at all.

One tougher outing automatically makes a fighter shot

Lets throw out the whole important styles thing or the fact that maybe Chilemba was largely underrated or had a Buster Douglas type of standout performance. Throwing out those variables and presuming that everything on this night was a factor based on Kovalev himself, and even then there are still too many variables at play to judge this kind of thing over one fight. Sickness, training injuries, over training, the location, the venue, looking past to bigger fights, other outside distractions, fighting in the same ring you killed a man a few years ago, etc, etc... Lots of things can happen to give a fighter an off night. He looked great in his last couple fights so there is no pattern to base this statement off of.

Perhaps over time this will prove to be the point where Kovalev suddenly got old. But until a pattern emerges to back that, I prefer to believe it was just an off night on his part combined with a really motivated guy in front of him with the right style and chin to make it a tougher fight than expected.

He is 33 years old. So it's not a funny question.

I mean the reality is he's 33 years old now which means his prime could go at any time soon.

Yeah...but now his prime suddenly vanished now that Ward is on deck. This seems to happen all too often from boxing "fans". It's not just this site either.

Well if Ward didn't request 3 tuneup maybe he could have fought Kovalev when he was 31 and avoid all this.

I am a fan, not a "fan". I did not mention Ward. I have nothing with racism...Just to be known...

Not to defend the point I just disputed, but the number of years a fighter has been alive is only one aspect of determining his/her prime. I've seen all ranges of age for fighters who have started to slip. Everyone ages differently. In addition to that, the number of fights they have had, the style of the fighter, and certainly the amount of wars a fighter has been can all have a much bigger effect than age. I mean Brandon Rios is only 30 and he is looking pretty well past prime these days.

No I see no reason to assume Kovalev is passed his prime. But that's not because he is only 33.

That styles make fights is an old truism in boxing. Chilemba presented problems for Kovalev but he still managed to do what he needed to do. It does not necessarily mean Kovalev is on the downward slope. Put him in against a not so mobile not so slick guy and he will look awesome. Chilemba also seems to have a hard head and take a good shot. A tough nut to crack so to speak for Kovalev.
