Yes, it was confirmed today. Linares wanted to train in the US or Japan, but his trainer chose to stay in London (with Haye).
Just goes to show how valued and respected David Haye is in the game that a long time trainer of another fighter has prioritised Haye. I’m not surprised. May 5th there is only one show in town. Bellew-Haye II is a colossal fight. Salas has made the right decision, who could blame him.
There is the possibility that Salas had already signed to be with Haye before the Loma fight was made. Aka he has to be with Haye. And knowing Linares(from the Roach days) he wont be sharing a camp with anyone anymore.
He’s training Haye’s HW prospect so if he stays, there’s the potential of big paydays on the HW gravy train. Think he wants to wave good bye to his days looking after Cubans, Thais and little guys for the smaller money. He’s got the chance to be in on the ground floor with Joyce, and be part of a lucrative British HW scene. If he does well with Joyce & just being part of the whole Hayemaker thing other’s may seek him out.
I still think he will be ok.. loma will probs win.. but I don't think it will be total domination or a stoppage.. 8-4 9-3 loma
Salas wasn't the guy doing the bulk of the day to day gym work any way. That would be Jorge Capetillo and I expect they will continue to work together.
