Morales in the 1st fight & Barrera in the 2nd fight used their jabs very effectively vs Pacman especially Morales, he controlled the pace of the fight at times by sticking the jab in Pac`s face prior to setting up the more damaging punches. A jab vs Pac is a very good idea because as we know, Pac isnt the best schooled textbook boxer out there & prefers to use his natural talents which dont include parrying or slipping jabs most of the time... Pac loves a tear-up, the more you box him & the less you fight him, the better you do, its not rocket science. Jab jab jab, counter, jab jab, lateral movement, jab jab, counter.... that sort of thing, if you can stick to that, be in good shape & can take a punch, you`ll **** Pacquiao up, mark my words.
Its useless if the jab has no accuracy nor speed. It will backfire against pac's speed. Morales had a wonderful job and thats how he manage to stop Pac's relentless attack. Pac has a devil-may-care speed and attitude, the most dominant occasion he has is going toe-to-toe. Going toe-to-toe against pac is saying you wanna kiss the canvass. Its the best advantage Hoya has for him.
pac counters the jab with a right hook from the 2nd morales fight onwards. that's why erik wasn't able to utilize his jab well in the 2nd fight unlike in the first. mab tried to use the jab in their rematch but that right hook counter by pac lessened its effectiveness and pac just dominated their fight. maybe hoya's jab will be more effective against pac due to his longer reach. but pac has been sparring with 5'11" guys with long reach throwing him jabs so maybe he's now accustomed to dealing w/ it. but again, sparring is very different from an actual fight so who knows...
he's fought quite a few of them but you cant really compare the Pac that fought Morales with the Pac now he's a much more complete fighter nowadays, he's more then just a straight Left Hand
The Jab hurt Pac in the 1st Morales fight, but Pac has more arsenal now, he's more of a complete fighter! Look at his Right against Diaz.
