Has Mayorga relied for too long on his chin?

Now that his chin is not what it used to be...will he be in trouble even against a shot Vargas?

I don't think he ever really relied on his chin. It did seem to become what he was most known for, but I think he had better qualities. His relentless and ferocious attacking style at 147 was difficult to overcome. He hit with good power and never stopped coming. A bit like a crude Aaron Pryor and minus the ability to switch to mobile boxing. When he moved up in weights, almost purely out of laziness, he lost most of his game. He hasn't performed well since the second Forrest fight in my opinion.

He boxed even less than before and he relied more and more on his chin to shore him up in those brawls, no? If he hasn't enough stamina, will he not get battered by Vargas?

I see your point but I'm not sure if that is him relying on his ability to take a punch more than the probability that he has simply just lost the qualities that made him a dangerous fighter. Right now I would not say he is world class. I was not impressed by Vargas in the second Mosley fight, but I think we'll see him beat Mayorga comfortably.

I haven't been impressed with Mayorga since the Forrest fight. Although I have to say I do think he gave a good effort against Trinidad.

So, what are the reasons for which you see Vargas win comfortably?:think

I just think Vargas is the better fighter. He'll beat Mayorga up.

He sure is the better fighter! Do you think he will get the better of Mayorga in the inevitable brawl that will ensue?

Mayorga's always been a free swinging CLOWN who's defense amounted to offense and bravado. I'm not sure about relying on his chin as Trinidad and DLH and a guy named Humberto Aranda(Mayorga's 1st pro fight) have KO'd him. Aranda's only other real notable names include being Ko'd by Cintron and Castillejo.

I'm torn over this fight at the moment, even though Vargas IS SHOT(I'm long loyal fan and he's but a shell of himself), Mayorga apears to be a little fatter and perhaps just as shot. I'm trying to balance my hatred and disdain for the pathetic, loud mouth, piece of **** ****** Mayorga because Vargas did look like death warmed over vs SSM. Yet the damn pics have made me pause:

Can Mayorga handle the weight? Vargas looks betterthan he did for SSM!

I'm still up in the air about whether this fight being at 162 and the appearances will make a big impact in El Feroz's favor.:blood

I'd like to hope so because Mayorga is one of those people who I cant wait to NEVER SEE IN A RING AGAIN!! He is walking human slime and picking him will probably make my stomach turn:yep

Yes, the weight advantages Vargas quite a bit...Mayorga gave him that advantage. Don't forget that Mayorga is playing with Vargas' mind; he has rightly figured that Vargas nerves aren't what they used to be and that he will easily be pushed over the edge...this is what I am banking on - a brawl - and Vargas being very shot.

I like Mayorga for the fact that after talking **** he comes to go to war.

Exactly. With Mayorga, it's KO or be KO'd every time he gets into the ring.

It's a rarity nowadays that a fighter who calls on a war actually brings one into the ring :good

C'mon Mayo has bigger love handles and Vargas's waist is just a tad tighter or so it appeared there.

I dont care about Vargas training his jaw or back, mayo's been Ko'd 3 times and doesnt have enough time to learn HOW TO BOX:nono
The guy is a completely useless piece of ****, trash talking ******:yep

Hops has nothing to do with this, but since you bring it UP? Who's career would YOU have rather had? A guy who can talk **** and back it up? Or a clown who just spits it before hand and gets fucng KO'd??
