Some of you may remember the great Bruce Lee making his statement in Enter the Dragon. His definition of fighting without fighting was basically using your head instead of you physical prowess to defeat an opponent. In Floyd Mayweather's case I'm referring to his inactivity and self preservation. I know a lot of people were up in arms when he suggested his health comes first, but I've always believed it had more to do with saving yourself physically and extending your career. I would love to see Mayweather fight more often, but I understand he's had a long boxing career (amateurs included). I actually believe part of his later success comes from "self preservation". He did prolong his career imo by retiring after Hatton. I remember in the 24/7 for that fight he was complaining about his body breaking down. He had hand problems, back, shoulder, and elbow issues as well. I think that was the main reason he left at that time.

Who knows, maybe doing business at 147 the way he fought at 130 might have taken years off him as well.

Sure he may stay undefeated, but a younger Cotto, Marg, PW, among others would surely deal some damage.

I always thought when he said health comes first he was referring to how he didn't want his health to be put on the line against a cheat

I think the layoffs definitely help. He seems to have found a balance between preserving himself in between fights but still staying in good shape.

ever since he came back, hes been fighting once a year and using usada testing. why is he taking such long breaks between fights(waiting a year to fight again) and using a testing agency who is known to have a shady past as with the shitey way they handled the morales and winky tests?

Well, he's mastered the art of hitting and not being hit, so why not.

He sees the new bar Hopkins has set in the game.
40 plus years old, still winning championships and fighting at an elite level.

Shiiiit Floyd's gonna rule this game for a long time.

Other fighters who are not as polished, been in wars, and ktfo, careers are much much shorter.

He's not done building on his legacy.

    Deal with it

Yea, I think people often forget how much damage occurs in training let alone the fights themselves. In fact I've heard several fighters and athletes in general say they suffer more damage in preparation for a fight, then the actual fight itself.

You do know that FLoyd have close to 200 amatuer fights right whereas Pac have practially none? So whose body need more of a break, judging by what you just said.

Floyd stepped in the ring 4 more times than Pac.

i'd bet floyd has trained/sparred more rounds in his life than pacquiao has so that logic doesn't really work.
