Has Nonito Donaire got the potential to be the next Manny Pacquiao?

Of course, but you'd imagine naturally bigger blokes than those he's been facing thus far will be less susceptible to getting blasted by them.

 

He really should fight the winner of Mares - Agbeko II to say he has dominated the division (which he no-doubt will).

For me, he should fight Nishioka next. What a fight that would be. Can Don take that straight left? There are stil so many questions we need answering.

As for the weight jumping, i think he COULD go to LW, but that'll be the max. Having said that, guys like JMM and Rios would kill him.

The Gamboa fight is the one he should be aiming for 'legacy' wise IMO. I'd favour Nonito in this one tbh

Like you say he has a lot to fit in over a short space of time, similar to Rigondeaux. If as it seems increasingly likely he takes the Arce fight next I would be very disappointed if he hadn't fought one of Mares, Agbeko, Rigo or Nishioka by the middle of next year.

 

Stylistically, I think Rigondeaux is an abundantly more difficult proposition for him than Nishioka Vano. In fact, Narvaez has the better stylistic aspects than Toshiaki, but is severely lacking in size.

I 100% agree m8. But i think Rig should have time to develop, he is still a massive novice to the pro game which is different from the Ams (where he was simply awesome). Nishioka's power is proven, as is his record. Has Nonito been hit with anything near the power he posesses in his left hand? I'm not sure.

The lower weights are absolutely stacked with talent (which is why I PM'ed you a few months back). Guys like Rig, Mares-Agb winner, Nishioka, Nonito, and even Gamboa, Salido and JuanMa could all be mixing in the same company soon

 

Judging from his fight at 122lbs so far, Montiel may very well hit harder than Nishioka, then again we didn't exactly see Donaire take his power when they fought:yep. I don't think Nishioka has either the capabilities or the discipline to give Donaire a hellish encounter. If you want to beat him you'll have to endure long spells of nothingness and not having much success when you do try to get something going. I don't believe Toshiaki has the patience really, you could argue he did it to an extent against Rafa, but he arguably lost five rounds there due to Marquez's jab alone while he was truing to do that, and this Nonito Donaire is on another planet to the past it Marquez from the other week.

I don't think Rigo would win anyways, whether or not the fight happens(if it happens at all) before the Cuban is accustomed to the pro game. I merely think that the way in which he fights would cause Donaire a bit more hassle than most at the weight.

the Navarez fight is also a pointless fight. why would you prepare for moving up in weight by fighting a guy coming up from the flys.

The weight won't be an issue til at least 130. Complete non issue IMO. The only possible threat is Gamboa and even that isn't a terrible matchup for Donaire because of his counterpunching skills. Infact if Donaire was naturally bigger you'd say he held a stylistic advantage, its only due the fact Gamboa is special athletically and is actually bigger that it seems a bad matchup. Just who else out there is a massive threat to his combination of skill, speed and power? There ain't that much out there to stop him between where he is and 135

 

My point is not Nonitos weight, it's the fact the bigger guys won't be as susceptible to his shots.

You won't find many guys that have punched hard from Fly to Feather, and the fact that the guys at Feather/Super Feather are cutting down themselves lead me to believe he'll find things a lot more difficult.

 

They don't need to be really. He can easily outbox people too.

 

He's 29 next month. I don't think he'll get to 130 in good shape and at a decent age.
