has ortiz made any improvements?

I always got the impression that he was a chad dawson sort of fighter. You didnt doubt his skill or athletic ability, but whether they had the heart to pull out the win in a tough fight and it seems he has.

 

Pretty much this. But this is the main thing thats going to turn him from a talented occasional threat into something much more consistent than that. He needs to maintain it though, theres no use just doing it once to win a world title. Everyone will be gunning for him now and testing that resolve to hang onto his belt.

147 is also a smart move, if he's capable of weighing in a 160lbs on fight night and looking very fit and healthy, fighting at a higher intensity than he's ever shown, thats a pretty clear indication 140 was not completely healthy.

It was just that he knew this was his last opportunity. He wasn't going to let it go no matter what.

Honestly, if Berto didn't throw short-mid range punches and slug instead of Box, he would have got Ortiz. Lamont caught Ortiz with long wide hooks on the way in. Berto and his team thought Ortiz would get hurt and quit.

I still think when Ortiz comes against a superior Boxer, he'll lose.

Ortiz/Khan at 147 in the future will be a great fight.

Berto was winning rounds when he was Boxing but he was hurt throughout the whole fight so he went back to taking more punishment by laying on the ropes.

 

The guy looked like a beast at 147lbs. Could reign for a while

 

He should have got rid of Peterson early on but just took his foot off the pedal for some weird reason :huh. Maybe the energy levels weren't there at 140? :think

I actually think Ortiz technically wasn't at his best last night. He really is a good boxer-puncher but was slugging a lot against Berto. He is definitely capable of fighting much smarter

 

Berto didn't have much success period...knockdowns aside. When he tried to box he couldn't maintain a decent work-rate, we saw very few of those bursts he was famed for when he was fighting tomato cans. I think Ortiz took his legs and confidence away early on. All he really came up with was the occasional jab, Ortiz just bullrushed him throughout and put a beatdown on him really, Berto was also hopeless up close and could only hold. It was pretty dominant, I had it wider than the cards.

 

I think he did. I might be wrong though. I need to go back and watch the fight.

Ortiz should have never been at 140, despite him saying he makes it easily.

He had a great chin at 140 and it'll be greater at 147. The punches he took at times and shook 'em off was amazing. Glad he won.

Avoid Ortiz, Khan!!

 

I think the fact his ammo constantly hurt Berto boosted him throughout the fight he knew he could hurt him at anytime and Berto was shaky from round 1 till 12. Ortiz power is top class no doubting that.

I think being the underdog suited Ortiz. He wasn't complacent and looked like he was mentally prepared to dig deep in this one. The confidence he took from the first round was a great catalyst for him. Physically, he looked tremendous and he'll be tough to topple if he fights with the same savage attitude.
