There is an argument for him, Hopkins, Trinidad, Jones and Toney. No doubt that Oscar's resume is one of the Greatest Ever. The man fought Chavez, Camacho, Trinidad, Hopkins, Pacquiao, and Whitaker, and Floyd Jr. Count the number of WBC Titles these men have won combined.

In the modern era you would be right, ever no in my opinion

    Sammy agnott for instance fought:

    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstorng
    Willie Pep
    Ike Williams
    Bob Montgomery
    Lew Jenkins
    Fritzie Zivic
    Beau Jack

Others that have fought better fighters than oscar i would say where langford, greb, zivic, marshall, moore and charles off the top of my head, there would be others too

who cares who anyone has fought, our analysis of any person should depend on the result and oscar lost most of his big fights

oscar has a strong case for this title but the subject of who fought the best opposition makes me scream:

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

its the timing and cirmumstances of when a fighter fought a certain great.

oscar did fight a lot of elite/great fighters who were near there peak. I never count chavez when arguing for dlh. whitaker seemed to be past it before he fought oscar but managed to turn back the clock. so i count that

He figured that he would make welterweight easily before fighting a pacman. he would never have fought pacquia if he thought couldnt have got a real advantage

Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and Tommy Hearns fought fighters who were a notch above anything de la hoya fought. fighters who are often considered elite, top 20 ATG'S WHILE THEY WERE AT/CLOSE TO THERE PEAK. THe only guy oscar fought that is often considered to be a top 20 ATG is sweet pea (Hopkins stock may have gone up since october last year)

    No.

Take a look at Ezzard Charles' for example. You'll be staggered.

    Look at durans record:

    Hagler
    Leonard
    Hearns
    Buchanan
    De Jesus
    Benitez
    Palomino

There are a few other really good fighters he fought in his lightweight days

Well Leonard, Duran and Hagler are all greater than anyone of DLH's resume. Only guy that comes close is Pernell, and he was past prime....

Hearns has got three top 15 ATG's in his resume multiple times, just for starters.
