Oscar has fought the best opposition of the last 20-25 years IMO, but from before that there are many who fought better, simply because they fought in stacked eras and had many many more fights. For example, Oscar's opposition pales in comparison to that of someone like Ezzard Charles. I still think Oscar deserves all the credit in the world for the way he chases the best. Fighting Hopkins at mw was always going to be a suicide mission for him, but he craved the chance of glory and greatness. If only some others had the same attitude (Mayweather, Calzaghe etc) then this would be a more exciting and more popular sport.

Quartey, Whitaker, Vargas?? Those three wins are as good as your beloved Floyd's top three.

And Oscar deserved the decision against Trinidad and in the second Mosley fight.

And the loss to Hopkins was purely on account of size (Oscar started at 130 and fought Hopkins at 160, would Floyd have had the balls to fight B-Hop at 160?? You know the answer to that question even if you don't admit it).

And the loss to Pacman seems to have been because he was shot at 147. That often happens to fighters that don't retire at 30.

Sorry if I've came across as harsh in this post, but to dismiss a brave and brilliant fighter's career in one blunt and ill-informed sentence is pretty dumb and infuriating.

TrinidadW12DLH, 115-114, 6-5-1. Check the Record Books. Mosley led something like 116-112 on all THREE judges cards when he schooled Oscar the 2nd time. You Oscarsexuals have a hard time with those two losses. Trinidad will always be rated/ranked above Oscar in any and all ATG GOAT lists because Oscar was too chicken**** for a rematch. :good

And the only thing in Loch Ness that is monsterous, is the model of Nessie that sank during the 1972? Filming of "The Mysterious Death of Sherlock Holmes"

Oscar has basically one fight left. POSSIBLY 2. One is against Julio Jr. He and Richard Schaefer are Collasal IDIOTS if they dont make this fight in 2009. And I will be more than happy to let them know that, via phone calls, or Letters to the Editor of the USA Today, LA Opinion, and the Las Vegas Review. One Grand Finale could also be against a 165 pound Trinidad. He can still make 165, but can Oscar handle a 165 pound Trinidad who went toe to toe with RJJ for 12?

I do know what your saying with this. Hopkins is a better name than Ruiz - no doubt about it. But, its hard to ignore the context, Ruiz was a heavyweight title holder, RJJ was a former middleweight - I see that as the defining moment of RJJ's career. It was all downhill fast from there :D

Again, you just repeat yourself over and over again, its boring as ****. Unless you have a ******s definition of "big fight" then you're talking absolute ****. You need to rephrase that to something like "Oscar lost most of his defining fights in the 21st century" then you point is that of a biased hater. Considering how many great names Oscar beat, how many titles the guy won, to say he lost all his big fights is just blatantly not true. :-( Chavez was as "big" as any of the fights, and he won that one. Not to mention Quartey, Whitaker, Vargas etc.

It says you don't understand the meaning of the word "most".

I would says its 50\50 whether Oscar retires or not. I can actually see him saying and doing nothing for a year, a year and half (think between Hopkins & Mayorga) then making some kind of comeback against a Forbes type fighter, and THEN promoting a megafight with someone or other, and inevitabley losing.

Although, a fight against Chavez Jr, in '09 would make more sense, I don't know though, Oscar isn't ready to retire or fight, so I see a long period of wondering and waiting.

Ali fought the best, and he won them all......
But, of course! De La Hoya won against the best when he was on his prime, his losses came way past his prime! De La Hoya is a true fighter.....
Perhaps he should've walked away earlier from the game.

The big thing about Ruiz was that he had Jones by 30lbs. That is a lot, also Ruiz had a big punch, when he could sneak it in. He caught Jones a few times, hurt Jones in the first round at the end of it -- but Jones took the few shoots ruiz landed throughout the fight.

Again the big points about the Ruiz fight was that he had Jones by so much weight, being a Natural Heavy and Jones started his career as a Jr Middle. Ruiz won a decent belt, beat a couple of good heavies but what I said is why it was really what it was.

Jones has had better performances against other fighters like James Toney, Griffin 2, and Hill. Those are better than Ruiz (although for the reasons I mentioned are less legacy wise -- but they are better imo) and he looked better in those fights then he did with Hopkins. So I would say Ruiz fight is better, given these points.

    -----------------------------------------------

With that said, Oscar's resume is amazing, although he loss to all the fighters who were in their prime on that list -- well most of them.
