Has Oscar fought the best opposition of any fighter ever?

I thought Oscar clearly beat Mosley in the second fight, it was a robbery IMO. The Trinidad fight was closer, but I think 6 rounds to Oscar, 4 to Trinidad, and 2 even would have been about right. The best Tito deserved in that fight was a draw - and I'm a big fan of both fighters. That said, Oscar did get a gift against Sturm - but that doesn't really make up for the fact that he should have defining wins over Mosley and Trinidad on his record.

Fixed. This is more like it. We can't forget his lightweight days nor his fight against Castillejo.

No he didn't. People just consider the fights since trinidad as his big fights. Oscar was already the big star against Trinidad. When Oscar fought Chicanito Chicanito was a bigger name but it was him chasing a fight with the young star Oscar and not the other way around. That was a big fight, it just wasn't as glamorous a fight as we are used to now in the lower weights. How can a ten time titlest in six divisions have lost all his big fights? That doesn't even make sense.

I still think Oscar's "biggest fight" was Chavez 1, only other that comes close is against Tito.

Why is it so impressive one of the biggest draws fought a lot of good fighters? Everyone and their momma called out DLH, he had the pick of the litter. He did what any fighter in his position would have done.

Oscar lost to the better ones on the list, and then you look at Quartey who was not really that great. Whitaker was way past his prime, Hernandez was good but also past his prime, Mayorga,Sturm, Gatti,Campas were and are average fighters. I mean look at the career of Thomas Hearns for resume. He fought before his title Bruce Curry, Harold Weston, Santiago Valdez, then when he won his title from Pipino Cueves (whom he beat not just fought), then he fought Randy Shields,Sugar Ray Leonard,Wilfred Benitez, Murray Sutherland,Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, James Shuler then Dennis Andries and the list goes on and on, Virgil Hill, Iran Barkley. I mean that is normal for fighters to have a list of great fighters. Hearns beat most of them though. Sugar Ray Leonard fought and BEAT great fighters like Hagler. Oscar lost by a bodyshot to Hopkins. Oscar lost when he fought the great fighters at the weight they were comfortable at. And his resume is not at all the best ever. No way.

Actually, Oscar did what most fighters DON'T do - he fought the biggest fights against the best fighters.

well best opposition is usually the best resume, although he did not win. You can look at someone like Iran Barkley and say he had a great resume, but he still lost. He fought Thomas Hearns,Roberto Duran, Henry Maske, James Toney, Michael Nunn,Nigel Benn. All those names Hall of fame guys, and not guys like Gatti or Sturm. Hearns and Duran both had great resumes all thier career. Saying Oscar has the best opposition ever is ridiculous. Many guys at that level like Leonard,Hearns,Duran,Jones etc, when they can move up and down in weight they fight all good guys. But if you do not beat the cream of the crop how does it matter much? He still lost to the opposition in his prime.
