Prior to his fight Marquez, I saw May vs Pac as a close bout, though I was leaning towards May giving him something like a 60/40 chance.

However, after seeing Pac, in my opinion lose to Marquez, I reckon it's more like 85/15 in favor of Mayweather.

Though it still is the biggest fight in boxing, I can't help but feel as though it's not going to be as competitive as I originally hoped. I know it'd be foolish to base my conclusion on the Marquez fight alone, but in hindsight, I'm now also thinking that the Mosley fight looked bad not simply because Mosley only came to survive, but that a shot Mosley was able to negate Pac's offence with some reasonable footwork.

    Thoughts?

    i agree with this.

Marquez has killed alot of steam off Manny.

12 months ago both these fighters seemed invincible.

Now we have a fight with one fighter (floyd) who appears invincible against a fighter (Manny) Who struggles with counter punchers.

The fight will still be massive but there's no question its lost the intreague as it is no longer a complete 50/50 fight.

Pac-JMM 3 didn’t really change my forecast of the Pac-May fight. I already knew beforehand that May would handle him.

What has changed, though, is my excitement for it. Over the past year, I’ve slowly come to care for it less and less; with its significance and hype being no longer close to what it was in 2010. Pac-JMM 3 has just added to the deterioration.

I thought Mayweather would have an easy time with Pacquaio up until he started becoming so reluctant and Pacman hardly losing rounds made me thing 'maybe he has improved', but Marquez just confirmed he hasn't. It should be an easy dominant fight for Mayweather, I'll still buy it

I think among actual boxing fans, the appeal has died off somewhat. But it will reignite if they eventually sign.

In terms of casual fans, it has died off, but I can still see there being plenty of interest if they were to sign to fight. I would be spreading the word amongst casuals if it does come off.

    Some?
    The Marquez-fight was a desaster.
A megafight is per definition a fight between two seemingly unbeatable opponents.
Well, now one of those participants got his ass kicked by the same guy the other participant shut out some months earlier.
    Aura of invincibility? Gone...
How could it be sth special if May beats him, we all saw Pac getting beat not long time ago by a much lesser fighter, so whats the deal?
And LOL @ anyone thinking that performance increases the possibility of May-Pac, apart from the fact that the general interest is lower compared to before there is not much in it for Floyd anymore, bc the general consensus is that he will beat Manny anyway, now more than ever before.
That happens when you wait too long, what couldve been the biggest fight in boxing history is now...well...not that interesting any more.
I couldnt care less about May-Pac, we all know how that will play out anyway now, the illusion is gone forever and there is not a damn thing anybody can do about it.

    Depends what you are after

I was always a beleiver May was a far better fighter and would school him

Pac being schooled by marquez again hasn't changed that, Pac never had an air of invincibility to me

They are still the two best 147 fighters

The fight for me would have been biggest had it been made just after Pac annihilated Marg and Floyd punished Shane. People were anxious to see whether or May had declined during his layoff which he dismissed in his performance against Shane, and I for one was interested in the Pac/Marg fight with it being Pac's biggest weight indifference fight against someone who would not stop coming forward (unlike Cotto/Clottey).

Unfortunately though, Mayweather's win over Marquez has earned more credibility in hindsight of Pac's performance against him at a similar weight and I just feel as though Pac will look lost aginst May. His offence against JMM completely lacked the ravenous finesse we've come to expect off him, throwing wild combos with his eyes seemingly closed.

Yeah, thats bc you know your ****, but most people dont.
In the general public eyes Pac was some kind of superman, impossible to beat.
Now everybody saw he can be beat, so there is no suspension left.

Its the same **** like wrestling.
If you want to make a Megamatch you have to build up the opponents as absolutely invincible, like Andre-Hulk. Neither of them had lost a match in years before their meeting, so no matter what happens, the fans are in for a sensation. Thats how the fight Pac-May wouldve looked like 2 years ago.
Now we know what it looks like when Pac loses, we saw it with our own two eyes, so that wouldnt be anything special bc it happened already.

imo the fight may have lost appeal because the run around we as fans have been getting for a few years now. as far as the marquez fight effecting it, i don't think it has as much as other people think. styles make fights, for example Hagler had a long close fight with duran while hearts dispatched duran in 2 rounds. if you apply the same formula as people do these days than the outcome of a hearts haggler bout would have been hearns winning but obi that wasn't the case. different styles matched together will have different results. theres so much to take into consideration such as a fighter mental state going in, strategy, what side of the bed they woke up on, and etc...

people are getting tired of hearing "the fight is on" the fight is off" however

This fight will still be huge as casual fans wont know much about Pacs trouble with counter punchers etc. Marquez fight has made a lot of *******s disappear from this website so thats a good thing even if they never fight!!

Once the fight is signed, and all the hype and build up,it will be incredible. And we'll all be hooked.
I agree it no longer has the feel of a 50/50 fight. But it will still be the biggest fight of all time.

The build up will be incredible. It deserves 10 episodes of 24/7
