People from Pavlik's gym said he was in training for Williams. That is how far it got. AFTER the fight fell through Pavlik did say he probably wouldn't have gotten much credit for beating a welter weight.

Like I have said before though, PW needs to grow into MW and learn to get some leverage on his punches before he goes in against Pavlik. Pavlik has been known to throw a hundred punches a around too. And each with something on them. Watch in the Wright fight how many times Paul throws flurries of nothing but arm punches. There is a big difference between William's 100 punches and Pavlik's 100 punches.

i know you said that came from a semi credible source but..... ima ride it out until it comes from a 100% credible source..

and ill still take my chances in that pavlik fight.... paul is fighting outside his weight class anyways and its not fight that is impossible to win.... I would still rather take the best on 147 then gradually move up but it is what it is

Seriously I find it hard to believe he had to gain weight to fight at MW when against Magarito his unofficial weight was 162 for a welterweight fight.

    sounds like BS

I started back to work so I have to think about bed now. If you want, PM me and I'll lay out my source for you. The only thing that is 100% is that Pavlik had started training for a fight with Williams. What happened between Goosen and Arum is the best I can piece together, but I think it makes sense from all that I read.

In the prefight series they showed him pigging down and talking about how he had to eat. Remember, when he is training he will lose weight so to keep it up, he probably did have to eat extra.

Hermit can be a massive *******...but in all news Pavlik related, he's the go to guy. Anything he says Pavlik related (when it comes to fights and all the crap) ias as close to good as it gets. I've also read Pavlik and Williams were in prelim discussions. Where our stories differ is that Pavlik wanted an established MW, feeling as though Williams was still a WW parading around in sheeps clothing. Arum forced his hand, told him and his crew that Williams would be the guy and then suddenly Team Williams and Arum hit a snag. Likely over a potential Margarito issue.

I also remember reading that Paul Williams called on Andre The Giant. Nobody told Paul that Andre was dead though...guess that's another name to add to the most ducked man in boxing's resume.

    Hard to say.

He never really "grew out" of 147, he just went division hopping looking for big fights.

And aside from a win over Margarito and splitting w/ Quintana, many thought Williams should not be looking to only fight big names. I understand you think he was challenging himself, but you need to work to bigger fights. His record vs. top 10 ranked WW's. 2-1. Yes, that's it. You can blame that on everyone else, but he held a belt that hold you back. Happened to Margarito who at the time as WBO champ, had defeated MORE top ten ranked WW then any of the champs and had WAY more defenses.

No one is obligated to fight him except who ever is his mandatory opponent. And jumping from weight to weight will NOT establish himself in one division to make himself a top guy. He'll always been seen as an X factor who brings not much money and a huge risk.

The win over Winky was good. It may lead to more opportunities. But only if he stick to one division and accepts he MAY need to fight lesser names. ****, put him in w/ Mayorga or Dziundiruk or Forrest or Mundine or Karmarzin or Spinks or Santos.
