Has Paul Williams gone from volume puncher to power puncher?

In his last 2 fights, he has scored a KO in round 1. And he wasn't trying to throw 100 punches a round. Rather, he was using the jab on occassion to set up the left. Even after his win tonight, he said he's working more on sitting down on his punches.

Does this guy have legit power when he sits down on his punches? This guy is really intriguing me based on his supposed new style. What if he starts using this style back at WW. Will he be more effective or less effective?

    Thoughts?

I know this will sound funny but we still need to see more to know, his last two fights both ended too early for us to make a decision there. He looked to be active throwing punches in bunches earlier today but still both his last two fights ended too early for us to know 100%.

Yes i think this is how he should and will fight for the most part but against margarito he should stick to volume punching.

Well, they ended early because he connected. I see your point but from watching the fight tonight, he didn't seem to come out and try to throw the jab in his opponent's face just for the sake of being busy. Instead, he seemed to selectively use the jab to set up the left. And i think the biggest evidence that he's trying to sit down more on his punches was when Paul Williams himself said that this is what he wants to do from now on. :good

He caught one guy, and KO'd another guy who was signed to be KO'd. I think it's a little early to make that assesment.

Guess I and many other people didn't take that serious enough when he said he wants to sit down more on his punches, now it's obvious he's telling the truth. Which is why I don't see Margarito taking his power as good as he took them in their first fight.

I think that makes a lot of sense.

I think PW definitely has changed his style up to sit down more on his punches and not just be a high volume guy. It's clearly evident the last 3 fights. He's sacrificing volume for power.

And another thing. PW is a freak. How this guy can jump weight classes like it's nothing and still do his thing is amazing.

I really still don't know how to read Williams' style. Watch his fight against Kolle again, a natural middleweight. That punch that ko'd Kolle was nasty. Maybe his power would actually increase at MW, compared to WW. He is a freak of nature, though. Definitely needs better pr people. This guy is a big time star and gets little or no exposure.

I agree with that. i think he got kinda lucky w/ Quintana, Kolle wasn't much of a challenge, and Verno was a good win. Although Verno is a good boxer, he is 39 and been fighting 20 years. It's expected that he will have more power up at middle and jr. middle, but I don't think he has devastating k.o. power. But I do need to see more of him. Since his fight w/ Margo(wich was the first time I saw him fight) I have seen too many things from him wich ain't bad but I don't know his true style yet. Let's not forget, Pwill started his career fighting at those weights, some people act like he just started moving up in weight.

    Big ****ing deal.
So he knocks out of few guys.
Thats what contenders are suppose to do.
And he fought lots of stiffs on the way up.
    I'm still not impressed.
He has got a ways to go.
