    Has he?

I have never heard of him questioned about it or ever give a justifiable explanation - just the 'at the time ' critisism of the actual belt.

Does Bowe still hold the WBC belt in contempt?? Has he ever recently said how he felt he would have done against Lewis.

He appears quite genial and candid in interviews - but the above subjects never seem to be mentioned.

    Thanks

Good point. Not much has been made of the issue, clearly he decided not to fight Lewis. He does not seem to speak about Lewis or his reasons.

it happens ... nobody talks why leonard and pryor never met ... nor do they talk about alot of other big fights that never happened cause one fighter or the other wouldn't accept the challange...

its just one of them things that gets swept under the rug

bowe i think would of been pretty happy to fight lewis, he had all the advantages and all the aces why should he be worried by a meager prospect? just becuase of the olympics?

at the time it was a very very talked over fight, and thats the reason why i think neuman made bowe drop the belt to build a super fight up along the lines. but then lewis lost to mcCall and bowe was starting to go on a heavyweight treadmill.

so a good match just didnt come off.

but just as you may of noticed these are only my personal logical opinions. bowe has said nothing about it as i know of.

Bowe did lose to the guy though & in a very very big bout. Fighting for the olympic gold medal is the biggest bout a guy has until fighting for the professional championship. Lots of pressure and fighting the elite competition. One guy won it via 2nd round stoppage. The other guy has a tko by 2 result in his last amatuer contest. And we all know the percentages in rematches whenever one guy has been stopped & tries to win the rematch.

I'm sure if it was Bowe that had stopped Lewis, the result would hardly be casually dismissed.

I wonder how he regards the WBC belt now...

would he refuse the oportunity to fight for it as he felt it was crooked - or would he conveniently forget what he did?

You seem to forget that Bowe had to deal with a family murder when he participated in the Olympics. Bowe, who is not the most focused person from the beginning ,might have been even further distracted.

Olympics or not , Jorge Luis Gonzales beat both Lewis and Bowe at the Amateurs.

Bowe still made mincemeat out of him when they met in the pros.

    Same for Tyson/Tilman.

One thing is for sure, Bowe does not like Lewis and vice versa.

By the same token, can you imagine the reaction if it was Lewis who threw the belt in a trash can?!!?!

    :yep

Bowe never really ducked Lewis.... It was more so "Hard" Rock Newman who threw Lennox Lewis a curve ball......... Newman was no dummy.... His motivation was to keep Bowe winning and still make millions of dollars..... Well, Rock Newman did just that..... Rock Newman, from what I've heard, is still a well to do wealthy fellow these days... I suppose Ol' Rock handled his part of the cabbage patch better than Riddick Bowe handled his.?.? Rock Newman made Riddick Bowe a millionaire by way of his managing / planning..... BUT! Rock can't stop the way Riddick Bowe spends or wants to live.... Now, Bowe is supposedly broke, but Rock Newman seems to be retired and doin' fine.... Newman was / is smarter than Riddick Bowe......

That is easy; the fight was not viable until Pryor beat Arguello, by then Leonard had retired.... When Ray came back, Aaron was on the crack.

This is easy blaming on the manager, but fact is, if Bowe really wanted Lewis, he would've intervened, but he didn't and hid behind he manager , fighting the Fergussons and old Dokes's of the world. How convenient.

It is what it is........ Rock Newman was NOT a typical fight manager who stayed in the office...... Rock Newman followed Riddick Bowe all around, and Newman always made sure he got his chance to speak to the media... Bowe and Newman had a game going between the two.... Riddick Bowe would address the media and feed them bull****, and then Rock Newman would drop his two cents worth into the pot and state some other form of bull****..... It worked for them.... But I truly believe Rock Newman steared Bowe away from Lennox Lewis in 1993.... Besides, Bowe seemed very happy with Rock Newman and HBO for paying him 6 million dollars for stopping a washed-up Michael Dokes and another 6.5 million for kayoing Jesse Ferguson in '93..... Oh, yes, Riddick Bowe was favored and expected to beat Holy in the 1993 rematch, too.... That is until the weigh-in took place..... Peace....:yep

    MR.BILL

Note: Destiny is a funny thing..... Had Bowe beat Holy in 1993 and Lennox Lewis beat McCall in '94, I gotta assume Bowe and Lewis would've fought in 1995....

Bowe's never really addressed the nuts and bolts of it directly.
Just normally says he would be happy to fight Lewis, or tries to point the finger at Newman.

    Oh Jesus...can you imagine?

A non-American boxer chucking a belt away rather than fighting an undefeated American opponent that had happened to beat him in an Olympics final?

If you thought Lewis got a lot of unfair stick from the American media, just imagine how bad it could've been if that'd happened.

I dont credit the 25 year old Bowe with the intelligence or business savvy to really hold him responsible over or equal to Newman in this matter.

Bowe was controlled, in my opinion.
