I don't know if Bowe was scared to fight Lewis, but he was in no major rush to fight him.Shame, too, because at that time, Riddick would've beaten Lennox.

It was more Bowe's management than Riddick himself who were wary of fighting Lennox, imo.

People forget (or aren't even aware) that Frank Maloney turned down Rock Newman's offer for Lewis to fight Bowe - an offer that Lewis himself was willing to accept.
I think both Lewis and Maloney had mentioned this.

    Mismanagement on both sides.

It's rather irrelevant though as it didn't happetwo using one what if is bad enough, but what ifs! Ridiculous sir.

However had Lewis of lost too Bowe in the Olympics Lewis wouldn't really be blamed as much as he wasn't the champ. He'd have been fighting fringe contenders until Bowe were to lose the title or taken the fight on. I'd favour Bowe if it was the 92 Lewis however a 97/98 Lewis would be slightly favoured in my eyes

Why fight the other champs in your division or the top contenders , when you can make millions fighting overmatched openents that have little to no chance and in 10 / 20 years you can become a H2H monster , distroying all in your path on a boxing website all by beating Holyfield in the first bout.

Bowe ducks Lewis , who beat him in the olypics , who got a contract to fight for the belt by promising to fight Lewis (the other winniner) , throws his belt in the bin , so he does not have to fight Lewis , ten years later , becomes a H2H monster ?

Big daddy said lewis was scared of him.

Something like team lewis had convinced the wbc to strip bowe so he beat them to it by binning the belt.

It's not as clear cut as I initially believed anyways.

Did the fact Newman wouldn't let Bowe fight Lewis contribute to his meltdown, I mean here is the champion of the world and your manager says to you don't fight this guy we want to make money and this guy will kick your ass.

Bowe was lazy long before he became champ. Thats the reason Futch was so reluctant to take him on but to answer your question, its the managers job to make the best deals for the fighter and Newman secured a nice path for Bowe going forward with HBO.

Bowe should be given more credit for taking apart Evander Holyfield regardless of the size difference he beat the best version of Evander. Lewis was so dam overated at that point time its crazy. Thats why he was knocked out a short time later.
