    Forget the media

    Forget the hype

Forget Joe Calzaghe trying to hype the fight as Roy Jones is still at the top of his game

deep down i think jones knows his only real chance of winning is too knock calzaghe out, of course he has a punchers chance and if jones didnt think he could knock calzaghe out he would not be fighting however cazalghe has a strong chin and it would have to be a special flush punch to knock calzaghe out, and i cant see it happening

    calzaghe late tko

Roy is not a natural Light Heavyweight

But he has fought there since about 1998.

He is fully fledged at the weight.

Joe is up in a higher weight that he has only fought in once before against Hopkins who only fought himself once at Light Heavyweight.

Calzaghe might be feeling a bit of extra weight in these punches up against a 175 pounder with geniune ability to nail people good

    Possible, but not probable.

    Calzaghe comfortable UD.

If Joe had come close to be knocked out before I would give RJJ a punchers chance, but he hasnt so I dont think RJJ will knock JC out.

I think his only chance is if Calzaghe has a really bad night, maybe suffers an injury, with Jones' counterpunching style he can give Joe serious troubles, he has never really liked counter punchers.

Jones only has to win 7 rounds to win the fight, I think that is more likely than him winning by KO, but even then I cant see Jones taking 7 rounds off of Calzaghe.

roy has the power advantage, even a washed up RJJ is still faster then most fighters even calzaghe and i think roy style will give joe fits. only problem is roy's feet are gone and his fundamentals are non-existent (like defence instincts) because he never needed them but as his speed and athleticism left him his flaws where exposed and all the muscle stripping coming down from heavyweight had a drastic effect on his punch resistance, this will still be calzaghe's toughest fight why? style make fights!....because Roy was that good or calzaghe resume that poor? a bit of both

Just playing Devils Advocate here, but I reckon he was pretty close to going against Byron Mitchell.

Chris Eubank reckons he came close to knocking Calzaghe out in the last few seconds of their fight - Eubank definetly had him hurt.:deal

I'll take you at your word Flint:good

I can't honestly remember the end of that fight; I think I was puking into a sink in a crappy motel bathroom in Stranraer at the time (food poisoning), waiting for my boat back to Northern Ireland in the morning.

Jones can hurt Calzaghe, of course he can. Whether he will or not remains to be seen, but I think Joe is too smart to put himself in a position to get caught, 3especially in his last fight with an 0 on the line.

The best RJJ vs the best Calzaghe, I've no doubt the yank wins. best i've seen as an adult. however, calzaghe has weathered better - and there's no way Calzaghe is prime, the lacy Calzaghe would have really hurt kessler rather than just won. Also, Calzaghe could win by tko. there's a lot of nonsense going arounf that Johnson's a bigger puncher. there's little evidence of that - tarver, fine. calzaghe slaps now rather than punches, but he can still dig. isn't is it five out of his last six he hasn't stopped? that just means he isn't a murderous puncher at the top level. he can still hurt, though.

The reason Calzaghe doesn't throw many hard punches is due to his numerous hand issues, if this is to be his last fight I think joe will throw caution to the wind. Remember Joe floored Eubank, that sort of power would floor jones aswell

Roy hasn't knocked anyone out for years - and Joe has an exceptional chin.

I do agree with that. I've previously posted whether he became a better boxer as a result of his hand issues. I think vs Lacy he was complete, but an earlier Calzaghe would have struggled more and got the tko, for example.
calzaghe was very powerful early on, but like nearly any elite boxer, the ko percentage goes down in championship fights.
also, eubank was as flash a kd as hopkins on calzaghe. neither were ready for it. and both were embarassed.

Yes. If its timed perfectly, with the correct leverage, in the absolutely correct area. Of course. He's not a featherfist, his power has not just disappeared because he's 39.

The knockouts havn't been forthcoming because the handspeed is not the same, the work-rate is not the same, he's gunshy because he's been knocked out by counters and he's worried about preserving energy. It's not raw power that is the problem.

Of course, his slim chances of hurting Calzaghe are early.
