Roy Jones of the last few years is a faded fighter.

Anyone with common sense will see that is a fair judgement.

It all started to go to **** after the John Ruiz fight.

    He got knocked out twice.

And has struggled in fights that he would have coasted to a win in before.

Calzaghe knew Roy Jones was shot in 2005 - and said so.

Now in 2008 - because it suits his agenda - Calzaghe is telling the world that Roy Jones is no longer as good as he was but is still a "excellent" opponet.

Joe Calzaghes words stink of bull**** - he is trying to insult our intelligence.

He says one thing - but is secretly expecting Roy Jones to be shot and win with a convincing stoppage or at least a points win.

We know Roy Jones is a very faded force.

Jones in his most recent big fight - looked quite good.

He beat blown up Light Middleweight Felix Trinidad.

    But failed to stop him.

And wasted much of the fight away showboating or "hot dogging" as the Amercians called it.

    My mind is made up.

The Roy Jones we have seen of the last 4 years is not enough of a force to beat Calzaghe.

    The question is this.

Can Roy Jones summon up one last big performance.

Can he out perform all of his performances of the last 4 years.

He knows he cant just show boat his way through this one like he did with Felix Trindad when he was well in control.

    It is sink or swim.

He either rises to a new level and turns back the clock.

Or he is going to get over powered and stopped or take a 12 round beating.

Can Roy Jones turn back the clock to a performance we havent seen since 2003 and before.

If he can do this he can win.

But realistcally can he do it?

Dont buy into the hype that he can 'turn back time'.

    He's completely finished.

    utterly and totally.

Flint, is something wrong with your 'return' key? I think it may be partially stuck down or something.

I am aware and ave already suffered the abuse of ESB members who have called me a ******ed poster because of my bullet point posting style

However I am strongly in this habit of posting this way and so will continue to post in this way

I hope he has one last great perfomance left in him but all I expect is a good performance where he plays safety first picking up the odd round before losing a close UD.

If joe had a poor chin i would give jones a good chance, however calzaghe chin is top class.

Jones will fight well in little patches of the fight and will win a few rounds in my opinion, but as with his previous fights he just won't be able to keep it going long enough, calzaghe workrate will also be a big factor, jones IMO will not be able to have little rests like he did v trinidad, calzaghe by wide UD i think

I rate jones chances of scoring the upset at about 10-15%

has roy a great performance left in him..?
at this level i'd say no to a great performance...
    but..
i see jones as the type of boxer at this stage of his career having a stinker of a fight and then throwing out something spectacular out of nowhere and winning...
based on that one punch coming from an unexpected angle, he's got a punchers chance..

    Looking at the facts:

Jones engine is ****ed, he throws very little leather and moves very little compared to his prime, Joe throws tons of leather and Jones has a bad habit of doing **** all but lay on the ropes and cover up these days. Jones fights in 30second bursts and shot picks

Jones is still lightening fast, faster than Joe, which maybe interesting, can still do what he used to be able to do, but only for very short bursts

Jones has by far the better skills, will find Joe and easy enough to hit, easy enough to counter, the counters should drop Joe's output and his defense may make Joe miss more than hes used to

Calazghe himself is 36, his engine output hasn't dropped but maybe he will get sloppy, which he can do and Jones counters may punnish him

Overall its not an easy fight because Jones is better, he probably just won't work enough to get it done but will certainly have his moments. If Jones can fight at a faster pace, make Joe fight at his pace and hurt Joe, he can win this 1. But the likely outcome is it going 8-4 in Joe's favour
