YESSSSS the super 6 has been amazing. Its done exactly what he needed to do, and get the entire division fighting each other. Tournaments are good for boxing. It eliminates ducking. The fighters who have dropped out of the tournament aside - its been a resounding success.
I think the tourney has received unwarranted criticism, but I must say my biggest issue with the whole thing is the ****ing scheduling. The long lulls and pauses between fights has really put a damper on any potential momentum, and many of these bouts should have been more properly staggered so we aren't sitting half a year between fights.
it gave good fights but to general sports fans who like boxing but do not follow religiously it's been a failure because it's dragged on too long.
I think so, particularly for a guy like Froch. It got him the quality big name fights and some good exposure. I don't think he would have got these things outside of the tournament.
I think it's been a bust. Dragged on too long, drop-outs, changes, etc.. just been crap really. They need to make something like this happen in 6mo's to a 1 year max.. or people stop caring about it as something other than just fights.
It did give fights that no other division is giving and def made Ward a superstar, or gave him the stage to become one
That hometown decision started off the tournament with a bad taste, but ever since then its been pretty exciting.
On June 4th there is a fight to showcase the success of the super 6 . If that's not enough to. Convince you then you can't be convinced .
I think it has been highly successful. I do not know who is ahead on points, but Froch came out of it looking great so far.
It was great. We got tremendous fights out of it and that's what it was all about. The best against the best.
Some great matchups, but I would agree totally that there have been too many big lulls between the fights, and that the scheduling needs to be tighter.
