Has the interest in seeing Povetkin fight dried up?

i'd have to disagree here. vitali feasts on guys that walk to him. povetkin would be outta there is 4 or 5 rounds maybe earlier. worst possible matchup for povetkin.

wlad would pick him apart. I'd favor sultan slightly due to his foot movement and two-fisted skill. Chagaev, Peter, Virchis would be very interesting and close. He beats the rest. Lyakhovich would end up in press row :nod

to answer the original question...i think there is interest at least id like to see him again. he has talent and can be a top 5 guy for a long time but will never be a dominant hw due to the fact he gets hit way too much

If anything, the interest in seeing Povetkin fight is beginning to build up. He is the first German based fighter that HBO has bothered to telcast, aside from Klitschko. That says a lot about Povetkin's growing marketabiity.

Povetkin's win over Chambers, to me at least, was fairly impressive. I thought it was easily Povetkin's strongest performance to date, even though he struggled at time with Fast Eddie.

The fight was not even close. Povetkin dominated won every round by a wide margin except the first, second, third and the ninth. He came on like an avalanche. Povetkin is definitely a world level swarming, volume-punching fighter.

To be honest, I am not sure that Chambers even won any of the first three rounds. Those rounds could have gone either way in my opinion, even though Eddie landed the cleaner, more impressive blows. I say this because Sasha kept up a strong body attack in these rounds, enough in my mind to have taken the rounds or at least made them even on the cards.

Povetkin definitely has some major weaknesses, such as defense and possibly conditioning. But he has time to work on those weak spots.

I can't picture Povetkin beating Vlad right now, but if Sasha gets a little more polish, his chances against Kiltschko might be interesting.

As for the other champions and leading contenders -- Chagaev, Ibragimov, Valuev, Maskaev, and Peter -- I see Povetkin as having at least a 50/50 chance against those guys right now.

I was excited to see Povetkin fight Chambers but after a few rounds I found myself cheering for Chambers. Povetkin has so many holes in his game and is not ready for a Klitchko or Ibragimov. In fact it made me mad that Povetkin was in a title eliminator after only 14 fights. Sure he was an Olympian but that shouldn't matter in the Pros.

    Pathetic:-(

Povetkin vs Chambers was a quality fight and Povetkin showed some pretty good skills and will in beating Chambers. Yes, we saw some flaws but he's about the only heavy with a decent chance of beating Klitschko.

Though I'm likely picking Wlad. I'll be happy to watch him fight and look forward to it.

Yes, this guy is definetly overrated. He fights in extra slow motion and barely beat Chambers IMO. Wlad by early KO.

That really won't be fair and stupid by Povetkin's management if they let it happen this fast. Let him have 6 or more fights before fighting waldo.
If waldo was rushed this fast after his gold medal he'd also be murdered.

He might not have lived up to the hype that night, but I thought Povetkin looked good. He has some things to work on and I hope he doesn't fight Wlad in 08 but there was a lot to like there.

Besides Wlad I think Chagaev would be the only solid favorite over Povetkin. Fighters like Sultan, Peter, Valuev, and Lyakhovich are close to 50/50 fights. Everyone else Povetkin is the favorite over.

Bigcat, I pointed this out before.

Smaller heavyweights tend to give average sized heavyweights trouble. The speed advantage and the fact that the average sized HW is not big enough to negate the speed advantage with reach.

Look at how Holyfield struggled with Toney. And I mean no excuses here, both men were up there when they fought. Also look at the trouble Bert Cooper gave Michael Moorer. Also look at Jones vs Ruiz and Rocky Marciano's beating Joe Louis.

Povetkin won that fight by having the one advantage we knew he'd have going in, which was persistence. Chambers is a very good small heavyweight with fast hands and defense. But his breaking point was persistence. And who cares really how Povetkin got the job done? Isn't the whole point that he got it done?

Bottom line here. If anyone thinks any of those guys Heavyrighthand mentioned would hit Povetkin as easily as Chambers did they are smoking crack. Brock made Waldo miss for a good 6 rounds easily and just ended up getting too stationary. Povetkin would easily move in and out on that big robot.

    i like seeing him fight.

he is not a super talent.........but a very entertaining fighter. real ready to rumble type of guy. lots of heart. comes to fight and makes entertaining fights.

and in todays heavyweight devision, he can win a title imo. not against wlad........but vs ibragimov he´´d have agood chance.
