    Boxing goes in cycles...

I remember huddling around the radio (no transistors back then) as a kid with my family listening to Burruni KO Rocky Gattelari...

Then Rose and Famechon brought Aussie Boxing to the Forefront...

Most of the Clubs had fight nights... Souths Juniors and others every week..... Boxing on TV every Friday..... Tony Mundine helped attract more followers.....FFS!.... Even Commonwealth Title Fights were 15 rounders:happy

Then Boxing went into a lull....

With a few brief spasms of interest... the likes of Harding ...prime Ellis and Barry Michael etc....

Then Fenech and Kostya brought Boxing back into the news for all the right reasons.... and Joe Public got on the bandwagon...

Bring on Mundine and Green.... and even more people were watching Boxing (even if most only wanted to see Mundine beaten)

With the likes of Darchynian and Kastidas .... Boxing was set to boom like in the days of the old Stadium.

But .... it didn't eventuate....Guys that would watch with me every fight that Fenech...Kostya .... Green and even Mundine when he fought credible opponents.... are no longer interested...:deal

The Mundine Circus orchestrated by Nasser ..... with Mundine "Talking the Talk" and fighting Argentinian cab drivers.... the conversion of League players to boxing and feeding them cannon fodder...the **** poor undercards... is driving nails into the coffin of Australian Boxing....

Sure .... Mundine brought huge interest to Aussie Boxing....

But now he is destroying it by taking it to a new low....

Like I said.... Boxing goes in cycles....

Sadly.... I doubt I will live long enough to see it rise again.

    Thanks Anthony...

    Thanks Khodder

The first few years of the Mundine circus he brought in a few new fans, sadly most of those fans have slowly left due to the last 3-4yrs of fighting bums. Problem now is proper boxing fans are so disenchanted with the state of boxing in this country they too are starting to twiddle away.

totally agree. Im really hoping a mayweather/pacman fight might generate enough interest for people to get into boxing enough to learn of the existence of fighters like Kats and Vic. but maybe im just dreaming....

Geez OZ thats a bit of a pessimistic outlook :huh

I dont agree with the argie fights or the average undercards that Khoder puts on but I think that between the 15 or so big names we have its enought to keep boxing going until the 20 prospects hit form.

As you have mentioned we only need 3 or 4 names to lead the way at any one stage.

ATM we have at least 6 names that carry a PPV and maybe another 4 names that will soon.

I thought boxing was in a lul about 10 years ago when choc came in...hes done well for a footy player...yeah he could have had bigger fights but that was not to be.

The formula choc provided to make money you will see a few more teams take on....so in terms of more money being available to aussie boxing I think ist a positive.

Ash I think you're missing the point Oz has just made.

He gave mundine credit for bringing boxing back, but what he is pointing out is that pretty much "what a man giveth, he then taketh away..."

Mundine was never trying to bring boxing itself into the spotlight, he was only trying to put himself in the mainstream (I think his conversation with Tallis recently highlights this). Thats why he has no problems at all dragging it (boxing) back to where it was when he first started.

There's the rub..... It's not more money that attracts the fans.... It's the likes of Fenech.... Kostya...etc who wanna fight top liners (**** knows why Vic can't get the fans in)

Geale won't do it.... Everybody is looking for an easy road...

You can fool some of the people some of the time...

    Aussie's wanna see real FIGHTERS...

    Just my thoughts:deal

Yeah I know what hes saying mate.....I dont agree with the lack of good UC fights that would develop aussie boxing...the positive I can take out of this is I thing the blueprint to make money has been shown and now it can be developed by other teams.

The big thing Khoder should have done was build better UC's and let hope the Greens and Geales will run with the better cards....end of the day better card better numbers on seats

    Thanks mate...

I thought I had made that point clear:good

I think Ash is thinking from a Boxing Fan's point of view...

    That won't work...

We need fighters that will really step it up... not follow the "Thoughts of Khodder Nasser... and how to rip off the Australian public"

Still only a maybe.... I'll believe it when it happens

Whatever.... Geale lacks the Charisma to bring Non Boxing fans to the table....

His only hope was to be known as the fighter responsible for retiring Anthony Mundine... Didn't happen so methinks Daniel has missed the boat:deal

Still not following this......are you saying because choc didnt take fights like Kess II , Golovkin and the Geale rematch boxing is now dead because of him?

Or are you saying because he calls out Mayweather and fights falinga its dead?

Vic and Kats are fighting good fights...Green brought over RJJ....why is this all on Mundine?

Mundine has done his bit and if he ever does step up it will be great but the sport in this nation shouldnt rest on chocs shoulders but 10 other guys as well :good

Can't deny that the one good thing that have come about from the Mundine and Green circus is the fact that they have brought mainstream boxing back into the headlines, . . . whether it has been for the right reasons is another story.

It is simply a sad state of affairs that our 2 best P4P fighters have openly stated that it is simply not economically viable to bring a fight back to Oz, and therefore must resort to fighting overseas. Katsidis is more well known over in the UK than in Australia FFS!! That really just proves the fact that if you want to make money and be a star in this business, follow the Mundine - Green blueprint for managing a career. Hard-work, dedication to your craft, taking risks and fighting the best fighters the world has to offer, sure as hell ain't gonna get you there.
