In some situations, you can tell before the fight that one boxer will have to get a KO to win. Thats a terrible thing about the sport.
It was obvious before & was proved in the fight that Ricky Hatton would have to KO Mayfeather Duck twice to get a draw. Joe Cortez took away any chance Hatton had of winning & the judges scorecards were the same
Clottey-Pac comes to mind. But that won't be a problem. Clottey will have him stretched out by the 8th round.
Even KO'ing the guy isn't always enough to win a fight, see Martinez-Cintron. Judging in boxing is awful, we all know that.
Dale Brown/O'Neil Bell, really sick decision, the worst I have ever seen! Martinez/Williams was a real rip-off!
No way Williams-Martinez, there was a shitty scorecard, but both fighters deserved to win that fight. Another case of how the word "robbery" gets thrown out far too much.
Terrible judging has always been a huge problem in the sport, but nowadays with better coverage and internet it comes more to the surface... I can remember a lot of fights from the mid 80's to mid 90's that where judged and refereed just as bad or even worse than todays bouts. I almost attacked my tv set by some of the 'Gianni Rosi' bouts, with terrible judging, terrible ref, and a poolsize ring, just to keep the title in Italy. Don't get me wrong, something needs to be done, they can't keep defending these judges with stupid excuses like; 'yeah, everybody has a bad day sometimes...' or 'It's just what you prefere as a judge...', because they can destroy boxers careers and cost a man millions in some cases. If you put regular Joe at one of the judging seats, and explain him the rules for 10 minutes he will do a better job as a lot of the 'real' ones. Reprimand failing judges, make a few rules to overtrow or nullify the worst decisions... do anything!
Just the first one. Ali Funeka hit juan guzman with everything except the ref and the ring card ***** and still lost.
