For me, JG, Mares was done after the first knockdown, but the ref gave him a second chance, after that he was done for. I have no complaints.

I have a big problem with the ref stopping it at the count of 3, without even letting him stand up at the (near) end of the round.

JG you've seen God knows how many fights, what do you think about it?

I think that ref shouldn't be allowed to work another title fight again.

don't think it was a bad stoppage, however with 10 seconds to go in the round I wouldn't criticize him even if he let it go because MAres would get the 1 min to possibly recover

His eyes were ****ed, he was on ***** Street, he looked like he'd had ten pints. It reminded me of the way Castillo's eyes looked in the first Corrales fight, 10th round.

That's how I saw it. Mares himself said he had no problem with the stoppage.

I really doubt Mares would've beaten the count (and he neded to do that in order to get that 1 minute recovery pause) but even if he was able to, there was no chance he survived the 2nd rnd, unless he could land a really lucky punch on gonzalez early on.

Because of the flap in the U.S. Between Time/Warner 'n CBS, the ShowTime bout wasn't on TV. So I have no opinion, at this point.

I didn't like the stoppage either. Sure Mares was hurt but this was a championship fight and he deserved the chance to recover. The 2nd knockdown he seemed like he was off balance a little and it seemed he would have gotten right up. I swear, sometimes these refs seem like they can't wait to jump in there with a big dramatic arm wave and stop the fight. Again, I am not saying that Mares wasn't hurt, he was, but this is professional boxing, and in a fight of this magnatude I think the fighter should get every chance to continue.

I think it was a good call. After the second knockdown he was really out of it. I'm not even sure if he would've gotten to his feet... his eyes were seriously messed up.

Well said, he should have been given the chance to get up and then if he was still out the ref could have stopped it.

I thought the ref could've given him another go.

    Just my two cents though.

I thought it was a good stoppage. His eyes had the 1000 yard stare and the ref saw that.

    Mares should thank the ref.
