It should happen by November of this year, that's what the IBF ruled at least.

Povetkin is fighting a tune-up on July 19th and his team has narrowed it down to four opponents that could punch and are tall, but are old and shot.. Bowe, Golota, Dokiwari, and Grant. He would blow all of them out easily, but it's better than fighting nobody. The top 20 HW's are busy right now and past that, the HW's are all pretty much horrible anyways. He's sparring with McCline and Williamson right now in Russia, which should be better preparation for Wlad than a tune-up fight against someone from that list of four.

    Dear God.... I hope not.

Talk about an absolute SNORE FEST.

That would really be a fan un-friendly fight. An hour os so of slap-jabbing ending up in a wide UD in which a total of 10 power punches wre thrown... COMBINED.

    :-(

Could be but still would be exciting to see who could/would win it.

I doubt that very much, Povetkin is known for being a very active aggressive fighter in the ring.

You´ve got to be kidding about Bowe being on the list. He is beyond washed up and past it. Povetkin might as well fight Larry Holmes :?

Golota is not a bad fight I´d think, although I didn´t see his last fight in which he supposedly looked bad. Dokiwari and Grant are pretty much journeymen now but would be fine for tuneups.

By the way I think it´s fine to have a Wlad-Povetkin fight. It would have been better if Povetkin had gotten more experience first, cause I think it would be more even and exciting that way. Povetkin however has earned his shot by beating two legitimate contenders in a tournament. A lot of fighters have gotten shots by doing much less in the last years (Thompson, Holyfield, Skelton, Okhello, McCline, Williamson etc.) And since Povetkin wants the figh, who is to say he shouldn´t get it?

Also, we need Wlad to fight the mandatories so the titles won´t be splintered again.

Yeah, Bowe's name jumped out at me, too.

Surely to GOD they would not seriously consider having Povetkin, a fighter who won a title eliminator, fight Riddick Bowe. That must be a mistake, cause that sounds nuts.

Golota Povetkin would be good to see. I like the sound of that.

I understand that Povetkin earned his shot, and I understand him wanting to take it, but I do wish he would fight a few more good fighters before he goes after Klitschko.

Huki, he has to fight Bowe. That would be great. Tall, puncher, fomer undisputed, and sure to end up on his back.

This would be a fun fight for what it is, and its not out of the question that Bowe could actually get in some kind of shape.

It is out of the question. Bowe is completely shot and has been for years. It would be a pointless fight. I doubt that Bowe would actually sign it though, he doesn't really seem interested in fighting unless it would be for a very large paycheck. I thought Dokiwari was retired too. Grant seems like the most realistic option and I could see Golota signing the fight. McCline would be a good opponent, but they couldn't get that fight made.

Yes, of course. He's been quoted many times saying that he will never replace his trainer for anybody no matter what happens. For this tune-up fight, some American trainer (or "boxing specialist") is coming into their camp for a little while to help him with some things though. His name is Layne Mauzr (I don't know if that's the correct English spelling). Have any of you guys heard of him?

Loyality is an admirable quality, but it should not induce a state of blindness. By now it should be clear to both Povetkin and his trainer that he needs to do something different if he wants to have any chance of beating Klitschko. If Layne Mauzr (however you spell it) knows his business he is going to tell Povetkin that pulling straight back is an error. That kind of advice is not taken kindly in Europe inasmuch as 99% of European boxers do it. Going straight in and straight back didn't work for Ibragimov (against Klitachko), why should we believe it will work for Povetkin? Chambers figured out how to hit Povetkin, Klitschko will also.
