with the emergence of mma,the recent lack of heavyweights, and fights no one wants except capitalist boxers(mentioning no names) boxing was on the slide in mainstream terms, though a resurgence has begun, people are excited about the sport again,i put it down to one man,,how about you??

p.s not saying who though,,as i have enough avengers on my back over my penchant for all things hatton,,,OOOPS!

I feel everytime Tyson decides to get in the ring, he puts the Heavyweight division in the lime light. Believe it or not, almost all of my friends, who are strictly MMA guys, have already made plans to watch the Holyfield/Tyson fight if it materializes. I remember being in a bar and at hooters for the Williams and Mcbride fights, both were packed and everyone was standing by the time the fight started, I remember them closing the doors to hooters because it started to become a fire hazard there was so many people.

The only other fighter I know that can create a buzz like Tyson, is Oscar, other than them him, there is noone else out there that can bring the average guy back to boxing IMO.

Agreed, but the average guy dont know that, his name is still extremely marketable. The Heavyweight division needs a jump start to the heart, it's clearly dying, a Tyson comeback would at least lend some popularity to it, even if it's only for a fight or two.

Not sure if you live in America or not, but unfortunately the UFC is the thing to be into for the 16-34 age group, the only current boxers the average guy knows or seen fight before are Hopkins, Jones, Mayweather, Oscar, Pac, Holyfield, Winky, Tito, and Cotto, other than them, America dont really pay much attention anyone else it seems. Wlad is not even close to being a household name in the states, and Haye is just starting to make noise, but he does have the ability and looks to be quite the crowd favorite.

I think they have a decent hardcore following but they aren't that big. Wlad was on jay leno or conan obrien once so that helps a bit.

Maybe California where they live now, but certainly not anywhere else, only a select few of my friends even heard of Wlad. His brother Vitali was more popular back in 04 than Wlad is now, I remember people talking about his fights when I was back in college, his popularity/stock grew after his lose against Lewis, and even was on PPV for his fight against Williams.
